Sig pixel size limitation?

As you can see I recently added a sig, but I don't know if it's too big pixel wise. The rules on the sig upload page only state 128kb, which it's under.

If there is an actual pixel size limitation for sigs please let me know where to find such info and I will downsize it accordingly.

There has been a discussion to limit them again to the the size the new forums are allowing currently. As of yet no decisions have been made.

AFAIK the average sig size on most forums is around 600x100. Mine is currently 690x238.

In Chrome your sig takes up a little over 1/4 of the height of the page on one of my 1920x1080 displays. I personally don't like seeing more sig than post, it will drive me insane. On the other hand, there are some nice looking sigs that aren't really tall as well. I think 100 pixels tall is sensible as people will see it every single time you post.

@micropage7 for example, it's a nice small and slick signature, blends right into the background along the borders. Definitely dig ones like this as it is isn't intrusive in the slightest.

We were sort of leaning to height restriction only, as page width was not so much an issue. Of course nothing is set in stone.

I've noticed the larger sigs too and I'm leaning toward something like 800x140 absolutely max, probably lower than that.

The more feedback from you guys, the easier to decide pick a limit.

Frag's current sig really annoys me be honest. It's just too tall IMO and basically doubles how much space o e of his posts uses

I managed to crop it down to 690x152 and retain what I wanted shown in it. Any smaller than that I'd need to resize it.

At least for now it's much more manageable than it was. If you guys come to an agreement on an actual size please let the forum know, and I'll adjust further.

Also, there is really no set percentage of post a sig takes up. People could make one line posts all day and even the smallest sig would dwarf it by comparison.

It would make more sense to compare sig height to the height of the avatar/profile/spec panel, which was roughly twice the height of my sig even when I downsized it to 152 vs 140.

There's lots of posts that don't have nearly enough text lines to even cover the space the avatar/profile/spec panel creates due to it's height.

I honestly like the size change and think that it makes the signatures less distracting, and your signature probably even adds minimal length now to "one line" posts. Thank you for changing yours and I think it looks better now IMO. Forums are nicer when you don't have to scroll past giant images just to read a text thread, as the body content of the post is more important to most people than a Boeing jet aircraft or a giant Twitch logo (sometimes repeated numerous times throughout a thread a user may post in). Your point still comes across fine as a smaller image and it's not as "in your face" anymore.

Personally, I think Steevo's is annoying as hell. He has this monstrosity in his signature. Not only is it huge, it's a waste a huge portion of the page every time he posts. Seeing crap like this makes me want it to be 100px as I typically have to see it over, and over, and over again.

Now if others would just do the same. like I said peeps, it seems some of you can't even fathom why I made the thread in the first place. Get over it already.

another point to make is how large they appear on mobile devices - on a phone the text can scale and wrap around, but images do not.

the forum handles it pretty well and seems to auto scale - but the same image loaded time after time slows down the pages, and chews up mobile data for those without unlimited plans/wifi. The images above are very close to the same size as the post content itself.

i use 120 x 499 pixels, since the size is lighter and easy

Mine used to be quite large, after some deliberation with w1z I managed to cut most of the height for my sig image and it still looks good not many of us use sig pics anyway, so in the event a 100px limit were to come into place, I've already adjusted for it, and if your current sig doesn't look good in that size, I'm sure you can find another one that looks good in short landscape!

yep, but i think max is about 150 x 500 px coz it would give you a room for customizing, the smaller it is the more difficult to put/arrange the image to make if feel right

I hate big ones that draw attention away from the forum because of the amount of space they take. I think a reasonable size, non-intusive sig is perfectly okay, but I do read the forum to read people's post, not their sig most of the time.

Limit the size. As Aquinus said a while back, sigs like Steevo's get very annoying/distracting and break the thread up a bit too much.

Limit has been set to 700x140 (for new sigs).

I'll PM owners of bigger sigs to update theirs.

Edit: I just realized I'm too lazy to manually dig them up, if you see someone with a sig that seems too big, report to forum staff.
