He is basically saying that he is impressed with the performance of the 7300GT as he thought it would be a lot worse. Hence, (due to the low price of them) he has gotten a second one to see how it would run in SLi. He is also impressed with the temperature of the card, and believes it performs roughly the same as a 6600GT.

@ curt: With your friends 8600's (or any graphics cards), the second brand (EVGA/PNY, etc) dont matter when it comes to SLi/Crossfire...as long as they are the same model (eg, 8600GT with 8600GT or 7300GT with 7300GT) they will work the same as if they were the same brand. The only thing is if the clock speeds are different on the two cards, which doesnt really matter either, because the faster card will just run at the slower speed.

Anyways, good luck with the SLi setup :p...tell us how it runs ;).

Earlier this year, I picked up an "open box" Leadtek 7300GT that had DDR3 memory and was clocked higher then the standard 7300GT cards... it offered very impressive performance for the $65 price. :) I think the clocks were 520 MHz core and 700 MHz memory, and the 3DMark05 score was right around 4000. It had a cheap heatsink, so it ran somewhat warm... idle temperature in the upper 40's and load temps just shy of 70. Anyway, I would consider that model to be the "king" of 7300GT cards.

Time changes everything though... compared to the 8600GT and 2600 Pro which can be found for well under $100, the 7300GT's performance now seems rather weak. If you can find a good 7300GT for under $50, I think it is still a good buy for mild gaming. Anything more then that and I would suggest spending around $80 on the 8600GT (or 2600 Pro if you prefer ATI).
