##solved##stuck in the "failed to configure updates" reboot Loop. HELP me please

As the title says, my nephews PC is stuck in the Reboot "failed to configure updates" loop. Safe mode DOESNT help, it just keeps looping. anyone have a Solution for this?

Windows 7

i dont know the update, its a dell optiplex 7010

Disable the anti virus. I had a couple of computers do the same thing. I disabled the anti virus and it went ahead and did the updates.

If i wasnt stuck in a reboot loop, i might do that.

Also,as an addition to the OP,it seemd as tho the pc was set to boot into safe mode before it shutdown, since i can see the drvers loading on reboot....i cant get out of that either,its part of the stucck loop

I dont know if he has restores set, but ill try. keep in mind its not my PC. might seem simple, but when its Not yours obvious choices are moot

win makes automatic restore every time it updates no matter if you set or not restore points.
setting restore points on gives you control over how many restore points to be stored and which one you want to use if you are restoring old state.

Last month I had to fix the update loop on my friend's laptop. Try the following
- Enter the recovery mode and try to restore to the previous restore checkpoint (either by bringing up the windows boot menu, or booting from a flashdrive)
- If it succeeds, then boot normally and try installing those updates again

Alternatively, if the previous procedure did not help:
- Boot in safe mode
- Either run a FixIt tool, or follow the procedure for manual windows update reset here:

On her laptop a simple roll-back to the previous restore point was sufficient.

I had this too a couple months back. I had it go back to a restore point. Restoring to the Restore point failed, according to Windows, but I didn't care....I was still able to load Windows again. Apparently even a failed Restore Point works!

nothing moot here.
it is windows update failed so you can either try to save it with repair tools or do format c:\ and start from the beggining. not much of a choice here.
i personaly would try save it first unless i am sure that it is new install that doesnt have anything important on and reinstall will acctualy be faster then resotre.

what i mean by it being moot, is that i rather not mess with the PC, since its not mine, and rather not argue either, im kinda stressed here, this was the LAST thing i wanted to do right now, i have some Stressful stuff going on in my life.

on the first screen of the win setup where you are supose to hit install button there is a link named repair at bottom left of the window.
try make rescue disk on other pc with working win7.

edit: i think you will need same version win 7 home/pro/ultimate

yeah, i have the disc i used, but it wont work for whatever reason. I dont know.

i suppose ill try dell support. FFS

either way, any ideas people can give me here , i would have thought of. im just gonna try and figure this one out with Dell, or smash the damn thing with a hammer.

i just wanted to Crunch with it,FFS thats it.

hmmmm
what exactly are those updates.
the only time i got not compatable msg is when i tried to repair win7 installation with win10 install usb. when i used win7 install everything went fine and win was repaired w/o problems.

edit: did you see win loading screen or it rebooted before it. could it be that win10 sneaked in and that is the reason for incompability

@jboydgolfer , You can get to recovery environment even without bootable media (it's just one of the options).

During your friend's PC startup continuously hit F8 to get to the startup menu. Here you can either boot to safe mode or boot to windows repair.

From there you can do system restore, repair MBR and other boot problems, check memory etc.

Try F2 with Dell.

Update Bios when you can. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/optiplex-7010/drivers/advanced

When in Bios, Bottom of bios list tree (left side screen ) is for errors or changes in hardware, read list.
Reset Bios Defaults and start over.

Left the pc to do what it wanted to,checked on it @2pm,and it was in desktop. My nephew gets home in 30 minutes,so thank god.
Just to be clear,since i stum led upon 100 threads with no posted conclusion,it was 3 or so hours before i noticed it being i desktop,may not have taken that long,but i sat there for over 30 minutes,and ddciddd to go work.
Apreciate the help.
