Hy there guys,

Just finished my new build today and everything went ok. It powered on, i went into BIOS, changed settings for SATA into AHCI(it was in RAID), activated the XMP profile for my memory so that i could have 1866MHz. All went well, installed windows7@x64 on it. After the installation was done it went into desktop and i wanted to install the drivers from my mb driver dvd. Then it powered off and now it doesnt power on anymore.

It just powers all the fans, all the lights and everything and then powers off. All in about 2 seconds.

CPU: Intel i7-4790k
MB: Z97-Deluxe
RAM: 2x8GB DDR3 1866MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum
PSU: Corsair AX860i
Storage: Samsung 840PRO 256GB SSD

I've seen that I have 0603 BIOS version, I've wanted to updated it to the latest that is 1304 but didnt get the chance because pc just powered off.

Do you think it has to do with this? Since the CPU was released after the MB was released? Also I've seen that BIOS update 1008 has:

1.Enhance compatibility for new Anniversary Edition and Devil's Canyon CPU.
2.Optimize overclocking function and performance for new Anniversary Edition and Devil's Canyon CPU.
3.Revise function description of SVID support item.

Any help would be appreciated

edit: Did a little bit of reading and it seems that 4790k is supported from BIOS version 1008 and above.

Damn.. I hope this would be my problem.

edit2: Just used my phone connected to the USB flashback to update the BIOS to 1304

I renamed the file using asus's bios utility. Then plugged in the phone, pushed the bios flashback button from the mb for 3sec, the led started to blink. i've waited until it stopped and still it does the same. all powers up and then powers down.

I did the bios update with the cpu and ram installed. does this affect the process?

on default? you mean to clear the cmos?
before installing the windows everything was fine. i was aware that my bios version would be the first one and wanted to update asap i install the OS.
i pretty much can't do anything except update the bios using the flashback feature.
i've tried with my phone connected in the usb but i believe it didn't update, although the led flashed as it supposed to

on 0603 version of bios it worked until i installed windows on ssd. but now if i unplug the ssd still does the same.

i cant give/load defaults. i did clear the cmos, i even removed the battery.
it powers up and then powers down. i cant enter bios. it just shuts down. timeframe is like 1-2seconds
all the vents are running, all the lighs are on but then shuts down
i removed the ram and the sata cables and does the same, on and off.
it doesnt make that sound when no ram is installed

Well, put the motherboard on a table(on paper), put in it only cpu, 1 stick of ram, vga and psu, with a screwdrive try to start(short the pins for power)...

Could it be a short circuit? Maybe one of the standoffs from the motherboard. Maybe if you have the time, take everything out of the case and reassemble on the mobo box.

The minimal pc setup to start/boot it is cpu+mbd+ram+vga+psu, and it is a start to see where the problem it is...also I see before bad case or bad power button...

Ok. i've put it on my motherboard box. One question i just saw. The 24-pin cable from my psu needs to have one of its pins empty? Never looked at that cable

Well, in this case, one of cpu+mbd+ram+vga+psu have a problem, if it was setup right, so you must test each one in a another good setup...

That is what i wanted to say. Try the flashing again with a more conventional USB drive. The phone needs some basic drivers to run in mass storage mode that is not exactly something the bios of a pc would contain opposed to generic usb drivers.

Will try to update bios again tommorow with a proper flash drive. i used my phone because i dont have any at the moment and of course the guys from corsair are not answering about the self test when the led is not red or green but the fan is working on the psu.
The guys from ASUS replied so fast and they said that a bios update wouldn't be mandatory to run i7-4790k but here i'm totally lost. On their site they say minimum 1008 bios version to support the cpu.

I would also consider pulling the CPU and looking for a bent pin. Same exact symptoms happened to me a couple years back and it was a bent pin that i fixed with a toothpick.
