    Again...

I sent a ticket I just hope they resolve it soon cause I really want to play Portal 2.

And I don't want him getting me banned.

But the scary thing is they hacked my Email account too!

I've changed the password but is that enough?

I scanned my Computer using malware and it got rid of 9 Nasty objects! Its been months since I did a scan and now I'm thinking this is how they got me.

Is a password change and malware scan removal enough to secure me? I made the password much harder than before.

Thinking about doing a reformat as well. Suggestions? Should I leave the hacked email account and make a new one?

install avast & malware bytes and run those for starters , you also might want to download TDSS killer and check just to be safe.

    my 2 cents

Also chrome keeps saying sites aren't safe or have invalid certificates.

If you really paranoid you could also reformat. And if your super super paranoid you could reflash your bios

Otherwise I think steam may ask you for a credit card that you used to buy game on that account with

Yeah I gave them my info and then some.

I'm doing a whole bunch of scans right now but I think I'ma back up some stuff in the end and reformat.

To add to my problems I just installed some new ram and was getting BSOD's. Had to boot in default clocks but I'll worry about that once I get this situation settled..

Man I did not need this. Got tons of school work...

Do the stop the account the moment you make the report? Does anyone know?

If you have tons of school work, when will you have time for Portal 2? ;)

Relax, Aphex. Steam is very good about helping out with account problems.
With a little proof of ownership (of the account) you should be back up in no time.

Oh I know I'll get it back. I'm just worred that he will ban me or that he will just find out about my password again.

This is the third time its happened to me and I know to avoid phishing sites. So I don't get how they get me, keyloggers?

Plan was to play a bit when it got released early. But now with this delay...

EDIT: Is svchosted virus cause its on my flashdrive and I can't delete it.

Tried Quick Format going to try a full.

dont use hotmail then lol i switch to gmail, and make it call my home phone when i wish to check my email, thus my email cant be compromised easily, and thereby steam is locked to my 1 pc and they cant change a damn thing.

Sorry to hear of your troubles man ... looks like he was trying very hard.

Time to invest in a good Internet security program. I use Kaspersky Pure and I use the virtual keyboard for passwords. Keyloggers cannot track that.

Steam should do that phone verification.

Its not like he tried to change my email password. But once I get my account back I think I'm going to use it with a gmail account. Seems safer

you have to set up the gmail account to do phone verification but overall found it pretty damn usefull as a quick layer of protection

I've seen a few exploits recently where there has been a dodgey link which firefox or chrome "caught" and prevented me from visiting a site, however there have been some links I've seen where the blocked site is redirected to from another url which manages to get through my browser security and steals saved passwords. The fact you see a "chrome/firefox has stopped you visiting this site" message makes you feel safe, where in actuality there was another site you visited for the briefest of moments which managed to steal information from you.

I am just very careful when visitng unknown sites (when I have had info stolen I was testing browser security). If there's a site you're not sure about then open the link in a browser you never use - I don't use IE9/10 and have no cookies, no session IDs, no saved poasswords or usernames and so I use that if I'm unsure (it's a modern browser so has all the security updates) but if anything does exploit a weakness in the browser there's nothing there it can steal.

Also having different usernames and passwords for different places is very useful - my emails have different paswords from my forum IDs which have different passwords from my games. Some things (like steam) have a password I only use for that specific thing. It sounds like a lot of work but if/when I do have an issue where a password is stolen it means the damage is limited to a specific set of accounts.

what happens is someone hacks your account then sells it to someone else and while they're at it they go through every email you have to steal whatever you have it usually happens with hotmail though, check every account the email is linked to to make sure they haven't gotten in them and change the passwords.

I have and I've changed the passwords for them all.

The pass for my email was different than my steam account pass. However, I'm going to use Gmail and now that I did the phone verification I feel a lot safer.

Once I back stuff up I'm gonna reformat.

Ok I don't know whats wrong but i'm trying to reinstall Windows 7. I deleted the partition, created a New one formated it and proceed with the install.

However when it gets to expanding files a few seconds in while its still at 0%. Everything shuts off without powering down. Like everything still has power but it'll just lose signal to the monitor and the disk drive will just stop and my computer just becomes all vegetable like. Pressing the rest button or power button does nothing and I have to turn off my pc from the back. Even my Razor mouse and keyboards lights just turn off.

I've tired this twice now and same results.

I think Im going to have to start a new thread for this.
    :banghead:

Trying Kill Disk First then I'll see if I can install windows.

Sounds linked and completely unrelated to the stuff you had on your computer.

Same here 10+ years without any software just hw firewall. No software will protect you from your own stupidity anyway.
