I found that using ?cc=us i can tick steam in to thinking in am in the US

Now then i found that the prices for games can very alot
Probably should note here that all steam prices are in USD

I will take borderlands as a example
$79.99 USD in Australia

To change to the US use ?cc=us and ?cc=au to change to AU

Welcome to... last year? Australia has always had higher prices, no surprise. EU prices are rips though.

I don't think steam actually sets prices for games and probably doesn't for different regions. Maybe it's to comply with some aussie regulation ?

well it's probably mostly to do with a us based company selling goods overseas.

if there was a local steam office in every country, incorporated in that country - they could probably sell them at brick and mortar prices, but until then they will stay high.

if i was in AU! i would use a VPN to mask my ip so i could buy the game at a cheaper price. then disable it and download it.

by adding it to the end of a link, it fakes the region you're in for the browser. so an aussie can see UK prices, for example.

the bitch is that the latest system confirms that the web region and your address/CC address/paypal address match... so we need someone in the cheaper country to gift the game to us.

EU and UK get better prices than us, the thing is our prices are still in USD.. Not only do we get a higher price, but in a foreign currency with higher value than ours as well. We see a game listed for $50 and think "woot! $50 is better than the $99 retail!" - but then it ends up costing us more like $75 au.

borderlands is a perfect example: $30 USD vs $80USD, despite being the same game and the same currency. $80 Au? maybe. $80 USD? thats higher than retail!

Maybe Valve's calculator broke?

I tend to think it has something to do with Australia, probably relating to a tax on online transactions with international companies.

not that i know of. they charge us a higher rate as if they were charging in AUD, but then use USD for the currency.

and then we get shafted with games not available here (one of the company of heroes games was removed for some reason, for example)

Whitelotus also helped me out recently for UK priced games.

while i personally have nothing against this, another mod may (and may delete posts about it) due to our 'no sale of virtual items' rules here. Best keep this stuff to PM's

I can't understand why global exchange rates don't apply to prices here.
$50 is around 40€. Then why are they applying $50 = 50€ !? Or even worse. I've seen cases where the game in EU was twice as expensive as in US. TWICE!

... and $30 USD vs $80 USD for us aussies, in the first post, isnt more than twice?

we're getting shafted just as bad, if not worse.

Are there price differences in PSN too? Haven't noticed it though since I use a "US-based" account and the PSN cards sold here are in US$.

I think that the sale of virtual items only applies to the BST forum rules, but as Mussels stated, best to keep it in PMs.

Also, if for some reason the transaction goes bad, don't bring the drama onto the forums.

Sounds like a Proxy Server can be set up to make this happen.

Set up a server to be the signup host, then also make some kind of system that takes the requests for games, alows for payment in advance and then gifts the game to you.
