I am looking to get a 5970. Now the Australia dollar is trading at about 90c to $1USD and yet the 5970 over here costs $999. While over in America its about $600, if we take the exchange rate into account, it should be priced at about $650AUD in Aus. Should I buy from America instead of Australia's ridiculous prices?

OMG dear jesus wtf is with the big jump in price in Australia!
Yes import even with added cost of shipping it will be much cheaper.

I would not recommend buying right now tho give it a little more time, products are always stupidly priced at launch.

There are a couple of places that have it cheaper man...

I have bought from Mtech before they seem ok although I get most of my gear from PCCG. :rockout:

$830 is a big saving over $1000.

I would just get one of the guys in the US to grab you one and ship it over. By the time they actually get in stock down here they could of already shipped it to you. It may even be quicker. there are a lot of guys on here I would trust with that much money, just ask one of the regulars...

Good luck :)

It will be a rip for a little while to come while availability is scarce, and they can simply get away with it.

600$ USD should equate to around 680-720 on an Aussie shelf IMO given it has a bit further to come and you can walk into a store and walk out with one.

just look at the GTX295, was $500 USD, I bought mine the first day they got to Perth at $880, and it only took a couple of months to settle to around the 650-750 mark, and now best price is $570 which is pretty much spot on.

I'd give it a while till they settle and 40nm yields/availability gets better, OR you can pay the premium to get your mits on one now :)

my 2 cents.

The sad fact is that commerce in Australia is still stuck in the mentality of equating our dollar to 50-60c USD. The populous at large never liked it, but had to grudgingly accept it.

Because once that precedent was set, we have little choice, nor any real power to rectify it. So in the end average consumers continue to get shafted.

It's a small consolation that we are not alone with being gouged either :(
