Saw this listed from a seller who also had another card I was looking at for sale and was wondering if there was anything specific to be on the lookout for other than the obvious of the cards not working? It’s a local sale so I don’t anticipate it being a typical shipping scam. Guy has basically nothing attached to his FB profile and it’s super new but it’s all listed for local in person pickup. Guy obviously has tons of nice working hardware but just want to check my bases as I don’t typically buy secondhand unless it were something from here.

^^THIS^^ is a major RED FLAG....

And just because it is a local pick up does NOT mean it is legit.....you could very well show up there with your $380 & find out he has 2-3 crackheads with him, possibly armed, and then you not only lose your cash in addition to the card, and quite possibly get a cap in yo arse too :

I know that sounds harsh, but with how some people are nowadayz, I am just not very trusting of strangers, especially when $$ is involved...

Perhaps you could choose to meet him in front of the local police department building or somewhere else with a lot of security ?

Good luck :D

Most PD's are completely fine with having you meet them in the lobby where the desk sgt hangs out (some will even have an officer hangout with you if you ask), if the seller says no to this block/report and move on.

I personally wouldn't touch facebook marketplace for something like this. EBay even if you get scammed is pretty good about buyer protections.

Is that right? I’ve stayed away from eBay for years due to being wary of it, is there a preferred way to pay for the most protection?

Looks like any payment method made thru ebay is covered (not the buyer contacting you to pay via venmo or something sketchy)

That is why I always meet up in a public space with cameras like a library or PD along with a friend if need be, you never know who you are going to meet. Also that price is fishy for a 6900xt I would ask for a GPU-Z screenshot and see it in game that way to check it isn't defective vram or core going bad. Sounds too good to be true.

I do a lot of local selling via Facebook as I find shipping to be a pain I don’t want to deal with most of the time, consequently I also buy things locally via marketplace.

If you have nothing to contribute you can move along.

What @bonehead123 said is some good points. I like to use crowded shopping mall food courts for small items high value transactions. Gives less "I'm suspicious of you" vibes and at least you won't get mugged.

As for it working, you just have to trust the seller. Good deals are often too good to be true - but some people do sell items for cheap legitimately. Without taking a computer along to test it before paying, you have no reliable way to prove it works and no real recourse if it is broken. That being said, 25% under eBay prices for a random dude selling an item is not uncommon.

I don't deal directly through Facebook, but new/blank profile is a red flag to me. It's fine to buy from new accounts through services such as eBay, OLX or Mercado Libre, as long as you pay through their escrow service for buyer protection. If they mail you a sandbag, just make sure you film yourself unpacking the box, you get your money back without any difficulties.

All this is correct - A brandnew account with no real details about the seller in question?
Just walk away already.

Sometimes scammers will post pics that seems to be the same item but it's in fact pics gathered from around the web, and if you pay attention to the setting/background you'll see some, if not alot of differences.
In this case the background/setting is the same but that in itself doesn't mean much.

I'll say it again for your own sake - Walk away from this one.

I'd not walk into a strangers house to buy an item priced 'too good to be true', especially when there's a suspicion of fraud.

Everything about the sale seems dubious.

Always use PayPal.

I got scammed on Ebay after paying via PayPal. Ebay refused to refund me despite very obvious evidence. I disputed the payment within PayPal and magically Ebay refunded me the very next day.
