Hi all,

Just wondering if this is right heres the deal.

Running a Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache on Windows Vista 32bit. It was originally running in IDE, i did a bit of digging around and found our how to switch to AHCI without needing to reinstall etc etc.

I've run HD Tune twice, once when the HD was in IDE the result was:

Transfer Rate:
Min: 18.7 MB/s
Max: 77.0 MB/s
Avg: 59 MB/s

Access Time: 14.4ms
Burst Rate: 167.5 MB/s

Then after i switched to AHCI i got

Transfer Rate:
Min: 24.2 MB/s
Max: 77.0 MB/s
Avg: 54.1 MB/s

Access Time: 15.1ms
Burst Rate: 95.8 MB/s

The active mode is UDMA Mode 6 (Ultra ATA/133)

Im no expert on this which is why i came to you guys, i thought i would see a decent increase in times but its more of a decrease imo ?

Im not sure whats going on so any advice would be great.

The only thing i can think of is when i switched it over i loaded vista up it installed the standard sata controller/driver then rebooted, so i then went to my motherboards manufactuers website and installed thier latest sata drivers, and the result was even worse.

Anyways and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Ryan
