System restarts automatically?????HELP!!!!!

Hello Hardware monkeys

I need serious help. I put my HIS 4850 in my system on last Thursday. I checked at weekend and system worked very well on saturday sunday.
But at monday on my way back home i tried to run any game the restarted automatically. I was busy in some work and i had to reinstall my windows due to some file corruption so i thought it might be due to files corruption.

The last day i was installing Windows XP SP2 and system began to restart between setup. After completion of windows drivers have been installed but systems reboot randomly either i am gaming or at desktop. I am really pissed off :banghead:

I am running my CPU at stock speed 2.2GHz but the Temperatures according to BIOS setup are System temperature 47C and CPU 43C.
Is that hot enough to crashhhh :confused:

Please help in this situation i do not want to ruin my this weekend and thanks in advance.

All my friends did great job by storming their minds. I solved my problem Through downloading the AMD optimizer and that was the thing bothering me. It is really an X2 bug and beware of it everyone.

Thanks to all, even PSU guys.( Naturally this kinda problems occurred due to PSU)

There is a bit confusion in temperatures BIOS says CPU at 43C and according to Core Temp Core #0 at 20 and Core#1 at 18 something...:-?

sudden restarts are usually hardware related. check the GPU temps as well in case somethings up there.

CPU's tend to start crashing around 70C, with modern video cards having issues 90C and up (depends on the generation of card)

Yes the GPU TEMPS was suspicious to me but according to GPU-Z and ATI CCC the temps are idle at 48 and at load 68 to 70 at 50% fan speed.

Remove all necessary USB devices and start up and see if that helps. Still use your mouse and keyboard though.

I respect your opinion eastcosthandle but i am not using a single USB device . ( Happy with my old peripherals though)

thats normal, you have an ati 4850 that is pretty hot

one thing to try, is to leave the PC off for a while (a few hours) and see if the restarts take longer to appear. usually if the restarts take longer after a cool down, it points more towards ovearheating.

Out of my experience with GPUs, PSUs and mainboards...
1. If it restarts without warning.. then its pointing to the PSU, normally there is a BSOD if its another issue.
2. It could be the card itself, some chipsets don't like the HD4800 series at all.
Look around using google to see if others are having your same issue.

OK i tried the things you told me but now this problem is occurring in Fallout3. I heard the fallout3 has some kinda bugs of system crashing. Exclusively on PC version.

IF you read through the thread, there are some people including myself who have experience crashing in the game.

I somtimes get CTD when going through a door and into a place which has not been loaded up yet and the game decides to autosave.

Once I had a full system freeze and had to restart my rig.
Strange thing is, something from Fallout 3 was still taking resources about task manager showed nothing.
My whole system became really slow but I still decided to play Fallout 3 again but this time it was really laggy, then it CTD.
After the CTD my whole system ran fine again.
Probably Fallout 3 was flushed from the memory when it CTD but not when the system froze.

Try memtest86 for errors in RAM, RAM can cause all sorts of problems

But i am also thinking PSU issue - try and see if it turns off/reboots under load or at a specific time etc.
