What happens if your head is scraping across hot tarmac at approx 20 mph? That air bag is gonna burn from friction, or just slip away from the head it's protecting. It's good for impacts, but nothing beats a quality helmet.

Cool idea but i'm unsure as to any effects the inflating mechanism has on the person's neck because regular airbags have enough force to hurt someone if they are in contact or in very close proximity with the deployment mechanism, as this PDF suggests.

It totally appears to be an airbag... if they could only do a hybrid of lightweight helmet + rows of airbags, seems like it would be an improvement

Problem with an airbag system, it probably wouldn't be very good at secondary impacts.

GE sold their housewares and small appliance operations to Black & Decker back in 1984 when I still worked for them. It might have a GE logo on it, but they haven't made that stuff in almost two decades.

On topic : The air bag helmet is insufficient for overall head protection in many cases. I'll stick with a real one.

I don't wear a bike helmet, never have, Imo if you get hit by a car, you are going to be seriously injured, so the helmet won't save you. they make you look a bit of a tit too.

I ride a motorcycle. You should see some of the smashed up helmet photos that pop up in the forum that saved members' lives. A just-in-time air bag? OH HELL NO. Your head is the same distance to the ground on either a motorcycle or a bicycle.
