Talk about anything and everything CoD: Ghosts on here.

Ok, I got my DVD delivered right on launch day today (thanks Amazon) and installed the game under Steam - downloaded, no discs. Works fine mostly, but straight away noticed a couple of glitches while configuring it, both to do with video settings.

vsync is always on even when set to off in the game and application controlled in the NVIDIA driver (latest 331.65).

The monitor refresh rate can't be set properly. 120Hz sets to 110Hz, 110 sets to 100 and 100 sets to 60. 60 sets properly to 60 however.

No dealbreakers though and I expect these little things to be ironed out soon. Still, it's odd that they're there in a final release.

The graphics look superb of course for a new AAA game and my cards could run it with no dropped frames at my custom settings while I was setting it up and testing. Unsurprisingly, it pushes the graphics cards hard and the fans spin right up.

I've barely begun to play it (singleplayer) so I don't have anything else on it yet.

I'm running a 2700K (not currently overclocked) 2 x GTX 580 3GB in SLI, 16GB RAM and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

UPDATE 11.11.2013

What's in that 21GB patch:

Some unofficial patch notes:

  • The Operations page is now showing total kills required, instead of showing certain level requirements, and in private match, you can add 6 rounds in SnD, and make the timer 1.5 minutes per round.
  • The ”devgru intimidator” operation has also been increased from from 150 to 300.
  • There's now a new mute screen, which allows you to select specific players to mute, or mute all.
  • Fix for the issue where players weren’t able to change the person they were spectating in S&R.
  • Operations items have been changed – you need to spend squad points to unlock certain ones, and thus it shows exactly what you need to unlock certain items.

The above is from an article commenting on the PS3 patch, but from what I've read, these are changes being made across all platforms. Of course it also probably fixes the Steam overlay problems as mentioned.

IMO Extinction Mode doesn't look that interesting. It's L4D/PayDay style play that can be done solo or up to 4 person coop with VERY repetitious gameplay putting drills on alien hives. It's just too cartoonish and shallow for me to take it seriously.

Once you have a proper go at the game, can you update this with your thoughts? I'm considering getting it myself.

Looking at a gameplay video I think it actually looks like a new game rather than a rehash of a rehash of a rehash. It still resembles CoD though which I guess is good for brand identity.

Oh it's new alright. In this one you're the underdog, rather than part of some crack squad. Ya, I'll let you know what I think of it, but can tell you right off that I'm gonna love it like all the others I've played. :)

Here's the GameTrailers video review, where they only give it a 7:

i got a big deal and bought my first cod game in a decade. what a frustration both in SP and MP: it is all just basic, simple, small, and unsmart. SP reminds me scripted games from long ago. MP is insane chaos in 6v6 or 8v8 and similar small matches.

If I had doubts about BF4 SP or MP, they are all gone! And if you want CQC, Insurgency does the job!

Picked up my copy today

I find the ironic part in this, Battlefields single player is just about as dumbed down with forced theatrical bits as Call of Duty has been doing for years. Battlefield 4s multiplayer also might as well be called Tankfield, easily the biggest gripe I've had is the fact that there seems to be 2-3x as many tanks on the maps than any of the older Battlefield games, as well as nerfed launchers makes it very obnoxious to deal with.

Overall though, I still think Battlefield 4 is a very fun game if you get around all of the vehicle abuse that comes until DICE finally balances the game, the launch is probably the worst yet.

Ghosts on the other hand, it's launch is nearly just as bad as Battlefields, friends having trouble running the game properly due to bad net code, stuttering, poor optimization. Just seems both companies have put out rushed products this year.

I think both games are quite good, but they both also have large glaring issues. The map flow in Ghosts is definitely better than a few of the past games though, haven't had that issue a lot of people have been saying with too many lines of sight, seem to do quite well. Like I said, if anything I get annoyed of spawning in Battlefield just to die to one of fourteen APC/Tanks that are allowed per map.

I will possibly be picking this one up. Going to wait and see what the Autumn and Holiday steam sales bring in terms of price for it. I won't pay full for another CoD game again after MW2.

Not to mention there is a lot copied from BF4 in the multiplayer, which is a bit disappointing.

Wait out the issues for sure, hopefully IW picks up slack and patches up some problems. If you're a fan of CoD4/MW2 style than you'll likely enjoy this one a lot. Where as IW claimed that ground up changed the game, I found if anything it's just more so the evolution of Modern Warfare, it's a very pleasant evolution but none the less. If anything Black Ops 1/2 changed the actual game more, but it is a different developer entirely. Solid game, delivering what the player base honestly wants. Although maps like Stonehenge are really awkward in 6vs6 because the map is simply too big.

Honestly I think graphics are not much of an upgrade. The game still reloads the level every time you make a change in graphic setting, just like in previous COD games. One good thing is that they add more AA options besides MSAA. The TXAA smooths out the edges even better, but you lose overall image crispness as well.

I experience FPS dips occasionally when entering a new area or when enemies begin to show up. I guess that's why the game require so much RAM, because there are too many things to load while you are playing.

how serious are the fps dips for your system?

I've read the sp campaign is only about 5 hrs long. I don't know if that's true, but certainly DICE, their main competition with Battlefield 4, doesn't set the bar very high there.

I think the days of long, immersive sp campaigns for CoD the likes of which CoD 2 had are gone.

hi all!

i guess a lot of players got massive performance issues with the new cod:ghost for pc steam version...

i can't fu**ing believe they released the game as poorly optimized port from consoles like always but this time i couldn't believe that the game utilizes 100% mem usage(thats 4gb of vrm on my msi gtx770)and 0%gpu usage!!!????????
i noticed it by watching gadget gpu monitor and confirmed it with msi afterburner!
im usin latest geforce drivers 331.65

how does the game run on your rig?

p.s.battlefield4(graphics are 10 times better then ghosts)runs on my pc everything on ultra, vsync on 60fps without a drop and resolution 1920x1080!!

if there were no respawns of enemies at your back in MP it would be starting to be acceptable. so far it is just a pac-man with uniforms.

Anybody have issues with the audio cutting in and out during the cut scene? I'm playing on a PC and system specs are up to date. Verified game cache and all drivers are up to date as well.

I still haven't had a chance to play it beyond yesterday's quickie, but I can tell you that the first cut scene right at the start of the game worked ok for me.

I see you're using onboard sound. Would that be Realtek sound, perhaps? Dunno if that's necessarily a problem, but you could try looking at the audio control panel for it and seeing if any setting stands out as tweakable. Also, you could try plugging in a sound card and seeing how that goes.

And then of course, there's always google to give a try.

Well the weird thing is it is only during cut scenes. During the game play it's perfectly fine.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's just stupid bugs like the ones I started this thread with. With a bit of luck, this will be fixed too.

I don't think this is supposed to happen either :p

w1zz has been playing this too!

COD SUCKS ! rahhhh

I'll buy it whenever I end up getting my xbone.. :P

x-bone? LOL!!!

No seriously, rather lets get next MoH, that is a ducky jumpy game but better.

The Metacritic rating still isn't showing in the Steam shop, so just checked on Metacritic and saw the crap ratings. Glorious!

I'll bet I enjoy it anyway and I want to see what image enhancements this new game engine brings.

I'll bet that new GTX 780 Ti can play all the tough bits really well, too. A GTX 690 still beats it in many games for straight-line framerate performance, though.

EDIT: wanted to say that I think this low rating likely isn't so much because the game is crap, but because the franchise is running out of steam. Just how many times can you rehash the same basic idea and keep it fresh and interesting?
