Once you turn your computer on, and that Blus Asus post screen pops up, how long does it stay there before the "windows logging in" screen pops up?

I counted "11" one thousand before the Windows logging in screen shows up.

What's everyone else post screen load time?

I'm not sure exactly what the screen is called but it's the first thing that pops up when you turn your computer on. And it tells you to press "Del" to enter setup.

On my Crosshair III it goes by really fast, unless my system is unstable. I had to undo my OC because it was taking 20ish seconds to get by the post screen.

Not too long, a few seconds. But recently stopped once at the middle of a post. I waited like 30 seconds and then restarted manually. Runs fine now. Also I don't understand if it's normal that after asus logo with MB model number pops up, it does it twice:confused: I think that when I bought it(with default bios, before I flashed it) it showed that picture only once.

It takes around 5 seconds to get past that screen, It appears twice and then a 10sec wait at the "Starting Windows" Logo and finally the Login screen. Im using Asus P7P55D.

Pulling out both HD's didn't do much. It took 18 seconds this time.

Not sure wth happened to the initial 11 seconds.

No biggies, at least it wasn't lagging like before. Where it took 15 minutes to load Firefox and anotehr 15 min to shutdown.

make sure quick boot is enabled in your bios, and make sure hdd is the first choice of your boot device, otherwise the bios will check your odd and lan and other crap first before getting to the hdd, and if you have mutiple hdd's, that the bootloader one is listed as first priority...

also theres a difference between the minute you hit the power button till you post and power is transfered to the bootloader, and the minute you hit the power button and when you get your login screen.

the time it takes to post varies from bios to bios, setting to setting, and on how your boot order is set up.. some mobos have a more complex bios and take a longer time to get going then compared to ones with more simple bioses.

On the other hand, if your post time is quick (if you've got speakers, when you hear that beep), and it takes a long time to get into windows, it has to with hard drive performance and how good your windows installation is holding up.. if you've got lots of devices connected, it will take longer, as windows has to recognize each device and boot it up and what not, if windows has lots of programs configured to start up before you even login (like login managers for ex,) it will take longer, if your windows files are all fragmented, that will add to your time, if you've got lots of unnessary services starting up, then that'll slow you down, etc. etc.

figure out where the time is being used - windows or bios, and work to optimize based on that..

fyi, i've got an asus mobo, and its loads very fast with everything optimized in the bios, with login managers and things like fancystart bios (preety bios splash etc), it slows up my boot, but i know the price i pay for the features so..

so i just use sleep mode... who cares about boot times when its an instant wake up?

Yeah i could see how that could delay it how ever i don't have that with the intel chipset.

You mean were the logo pops up ? ( if so )Turn the logo off and see were it stalls at maybe ?.

on each RAID controller it pauses so you can access the RAID menu if you want to.

how long your bootup takes varies depending on your hardware and settings - if i had no RAID controllers, set it to AHCI in the BIOS and disabled a few useless peripherals in the BIOS as well - my boot time would be a quarter what it is.

i'm not asus like the OP was asking, but its the same for every system. config is what controls the boot time (until the windows loading screen)

He says post screen not boot time to me it's 2 different parts.

Now windows boot time as always been slow for me compered to other even if the system was lesser and that includes my aged ABit KN8 SLI mobo which is much faster than this one @ booting raid or no raid.

And yes it is a little slower at least on the intel systems when raid and IDE are enabled as it posts seperate screens and pauses although you can press esc to skip that.

Only just recently i have noticed a speed increase since i installed the newer RST drivers which were it shows you the blue bar going accross the screen it does it 3-4 times less as it used to be about 7 times before.

EDIT: If it is the start of the bios 9post screen ) were it shows you the drives maybe unplugging them and see how much faster it passes though it

I don't see any options for "Quick boot".

put the hdd first (and if you have multiple, put the bootloader one at the top) and disable the cd, if you ever need to boot from cd, just use the boot select hotkey (f8 or f12 are common)
this will help by a second or 2..

as for quick boot, theres a lot of phrases, like extended boot, typically logo changes will speed up or slow down. usually not having a full screen logo will speed up the boot (also, asus fancystart will slow you down a second or 2 too, best to disable if you want to speed up)

also, investigate where most of the time is going, in the bios, or in windows loading.. that way we can tackle the right area..

I agree since your CD is first it is trying to read the CD-ROM, which no disk is inside so the computer is taking a couple seconds to load before it goes to reading the HDD, that I believe is your problem. Try putting the HDD first and see what happens.

I have like what.. 3-4 seconds? That's with the original 775 p5Q.

It's the Windows "Starting Windows" screen that takes the longest for me, which is roughly ~10-11 seconds, to hit the login screen.

I run 2 drives in RAID 0, so I guess the RAID controller is the only extra thing I need to load. If I disable my CD drive check during boot, I can probably strip off another second (and just enable it the next time I use it :D )

Changing my boot priorities to HD only didn't do much. LOL Still getting 19-20 seconds. I guess it's normal. To give people time to choose if they want to enter setup or not.

LAN cable checker function in BIOS is also slowing down things.
Just remembered - my uncle has P5b-V with Pentium D and it is also booting very slow, just like you said. When "Press del to enter setup" pops up, it is staying about 20 seconds. Next step it is checking storage devices and then shows HDD's with option "press enter to continue" If not pressed, it stays about 5 - 10 secs longer and then finally loads windows. I think that these motherboards are just not built with fast booting in mind:shadedshu

Do you have Express Gate turned on? Default is 10 seconds and the monitor can lag behind to make it seem like its taking longer.
