Time for a new graphics card

Hi All,

On the look out again for a new graphics card, Been very happy with my 4870 i did only buy it a few months ago from ebay, but got abit of cash so thought why not Cant see anything else on my system i need to upgrade At the moment.

Iv been looking at getting a 6870 which seem to be a good upgrade choice not sure what you guys think of that ? but i looked at a Asus 6870 for £163.

I was also interesed in looking at a Nvidia equivalent not sure what that would be as i have never bought a Nvidia card in my life ? :rolleyes:

Get a bit more and buy HD6950. Trust me, it is worth the money.

Yup - HD6750 2GB is good way to go. Also - if u are not hunting latest gears - u could get GTX480 from Scan (~200)

GTX 470 or GTX 560 Ti, both are marginally faster, though I can't speak for a price comparison.

Based on my GTX 470 (9.5"), an HD 6870 (10.3") might barely fit, there is about a 1" gap between my card and the case.

Stock size boards of about 9.5 in. will.

I have a 4870 1gb now as well, thinking about upgrading to the HD6950 2GB. Should be a great deal, and you can XFire later on if you like. Runs phenomenal on multiple monitor setups, will be even better on my 22" 1680*1050, everything will run maxed out.

Been looking around trying to find some bargins : ) TBH i dont really want to spend over £150 on a graphics card. I have been looking at Perhaps Getting a 4870 X2 would that be a worth getting, Seen a few on ebay for £130 to £150.

I did also think about perhaps getting a Better Mobo that can do crossfire and getting another 4870 But what is the Difference to Crossfire and the X2 ?

why's that? I bought a 6970 and don't expect it to "collapse" now that the 6990 is out. Same difference. Some people want "awesome" but don't have $34098540985 to spend on a card.

Hmmmm....... Well at the moment i think i may just stick with getting a ATI card, Is it right to say a 4870X2 is more powerfull than a 6870 on it's own ?

So true i want to get my moneys worth really, Getting pretty confused in terms of ATI and Nvidia though.

hey well if you want to Crossfire just be shure you have a good power supply and motherboard

also crossfire'ing i personaly think is over rated... with performance scaling and all... .beter get a good single GPU card

so a 6870 you will get DX11 and a small FPS increase

and yes the CM scout is a faily large casing so it will fit

Just been Doing some research Im going to leave even looking at getting a 4870x2 doesn't seem worth it. I think i will be on the look out for either a 6870 or 6950 saw a 6870 on Overclockers Uk with MW2, Stalker, 3D marks 11 and AVP for £180 so might get that gonna see what else i can get for my cash. : )

TBH im not to bothered about DX11, if i can play a game without i will.

Oh Btw Sy5tem i have a CMScout not sniper.....LOL

Im kinda surprised that the 5850 and 6870 seem to be very close to each other in terms of FPS on most reviews iv seen. on metro 2033 it's like 2 - 5 Fps out.

Would i be right in thinking that i could easily overclock a 5850 to get abit more out of it and closer or futher away from a 6870 ?

also is the 6850 better then the 5850 ?

6870 > 5850 > 6850
All 3 of these cards overclock quite well.

It is about thinking of physics relatively.
6990 will drop when 590 will come out
the price gap will become smaller with both 6970 and 580
they will drop the price for both
