two 4870x2 or 5870

hi all i have a 4870x2 , should i buy another 4870x2, or buy a 5870 . need some help

I would get 5870. What ever you gonna play 5870 would be enough so the less performance on the 5870 side is not that important. And on the other side what are going to do with that much power of two 4870x2 that have a lot of power but what for when you wont be able to max out the games because of lack of DX11 support and many games wont support DX10 only DX9 and DX11.

5870 and 4870x2 are identical almost in benchmarks. 2 4870x2's would beat a 5870 yet the single 5870 has dx11 support, its all the matter games will still look as good with 2 4870x2's but with the 5870 you got the dx11 newer tech. its a matter of what you want.

2 questions,
1- do you plan on gaming with DX11 and the HD 4870x2 is already super fast.
2- The good thing about selling your HD 4870x2 right now is you may very well get top dollar for the card. Many people are looking for these cards to crossfirex them.

Now what I would do is if you really want the HD 5870, I would wait until Nvidia comes out with the new cards, then ATI may drop prices on the HD 5870's and the HD 5890. Then I would get a HD 5890

A 4870X2 will pretty much frame rape any game out there, bar that game that shal not be mentioned. That said, if I was in your shoes id sell the existing X2 and get a 5870 - better performance (only marginally but still) with less power draw and less heat output. Two X2's will destroy your electricity bill and shit heat with fury only matched by Thor.

Installed a new HIS5870 today besides it being on the large side, it runs CS4 photoshop and COD4 rather smooth I must say

5870 will have higher minimums, improving your experience overall. You don't want your minimums much lower than 50.

I say go for the HD 5870 hands down. You can always pick up another one later on when prices come screeming down

Personally, I'd sell off the 4870x2 and pick up a 5870. The 5870 is much more power efficient and can overclock like a beast. Plus later on you can pick up another 5870 and run crossfire.

I would get the 5870. One latest generation GPU is always a better idea over two of the older gen. Raw power and benchmarking isn't all that counts, right?

if it was me id get niether and save your money or buy something else. the 4870x2 supports dx10 an 9 etc which allot of game will still support for a while an yea dx11 looks great but i wouldnt justify just that for a new gpu, id only upgrade if my current gpu was causing crap fps which yours is not. Just my opinion
