Hi tpu, I have a 990fx extreme3 motherboard and a fx 9590 cpu which is 220 watts and my mono can take a Max of 175, so how do I under volt it to the point that it doesn't go past 175 watts and stays at a constant GHz, because I'm having mad stability issues when running high power games

Especially with that chip in it, I'm suprised it hasn't blown up already.

You need a different board for that chip before you lose the board and probrably the chip too, it's not unusual for the chip to get taken out when the board gives up.

The Crosshair V-Z or the Sabertooth 2.0 will do fine for that chip.
You also haven't said what cooling you have for the chip, I'm hoping it's at least good watercooling since it won't run (For long) on air alone.

You mentioned undervolting it too - All you have to do is manually reduce the CPU multiplier to about 18x and be sure CPU voltage is around 1.35v's. You could probrably run a little higher multiplier but for now it's simply about reigning it in for making it manageable. Once you know it's doing OK then I'd raise it up a multi or two or three.
For doing that you'll have to go into the BIOS and set any auto overclocking/performance features to manual first, then set things where they need to be.

I would start by disabling a module and running with 6 cores at stock instead of 8. Games like clocks more than cores, so to me, that's a good place to start.

Set multi in the bios to 18x (3.6Ghz), turbo off, voltage to 1.3v or less, set memory to DDR3 1600- should bring power close to 95w with decent temps and will greatly reduce or eliminate throttling.

Then plan for buying a better board ;)

No I'm not going to do that, how is the entire thing crap, the only thing is the motherboard that isn't that amazing, everything else is pretty great, 16 gigs of ram, pretty great gpu, a solid cpu, and an evga 1300 watt psu that will last at least 10 years, and liquid cooling for my cpu, yeah, so yeah im not going to take your advice, HOWEVER, intel does have better cpu's than AMD at the moment, so yeah, but I'm sticking to AMD

If you plan to buy a new board i reccomend Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 rev4.0 or MSI 990fxa gaming.

You should have spent that money on a new motherboard instead of that 1,300 watt PSU and kept the smaller unit you had before. The criticism is more due to your poor choices on hardware. I'm not going to sugar coat it for you. Your best option is to replace the motherboard and a short term option is to disable a module or two. Simply put, you should have done research before investing in the parts you did.

In hindsight yeah but I'm getting an approved cpu so it should fix up all of my problems until I get a maxed out mobo and I'll Maybe switch to intel by then, in around 2 years I'll be able to buy a new mobo.

Yeah I got an 8370 now so it should fix everything up for the time being
