    Help out a fellow TPU'er.

Hopefully coming into some cash soon (£1000+) from a job regrading and back pay. I was planning on saving and upgrading to Socket 2011 in Q4 but then i thought is it worth it?

I run an X58 mobo currently with an i7 920, clocked at 3.6 (HT off). I was looking at getting a i7 970 gulftown but on a link from some TPU post an Anandtech article shows the i7 2600 beats the i7 970 at gaming applications (what i use my pc for mostly).

My system is starting to age as my 920 (C0 stepping) had some erratic temps of late and the 3.6 clock isn't as stable as it used to be. So, my options are....

    1) Wait for socket 2011 and X79 chipset (i read socket 2011 will be ivy bridge compatible)
    2) Just go for current i7 2600k and a good P67 board
    3) Sit on my i7 920 for as long as possible because let's face it, the X58 is a bloody good set up.
    4) Down clock my 920 - gay option :p

    3) is rational but what tech geek is rational?

Some good wise tech advice would be appreciated :)

i say down clock your 920  and wait for x79, unless your current setup becomes to unstable

Keep checking the prices for the i7 2600K and i think its better to wait for ivy and keep your i7 920 as long as you can as your i7 920 is still pretty solid!

the answer you wanted would be - whether you are rich or not (2)
the best answer for you if you are rich would be (1)
answer (3) and (4) are what your wife would tell you to do, because they don't results in any money outflows. XD
