Today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) announced the number of certified SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0) products doubled from last year, with 720+ certified SuperSpeed USB products on the market.

"The number of USB 3.0 products that have been certified this past year, including the first USB 3.0 hubs, is unprecedented," said Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF President & COO. "Increased development of certified products demonstrates strong industry support for SuperSpeed USB and validates USB-IF interoperability testing and certification programs as necessary steps to ensure a seamless computing experience for consumers."

With SuperSpeed USB achieving unprecedented adoption in the industry, USB will continue to meet consumer demands far into the future. The USB 3.0 Promoter Group has developed additional specifications to enhance USB applications across multiple computing platforms, including the recently announced specification to increase SuperSpeed USB to 10 Gbps. The USB Power Delivery specification has also been adopted by manufacturers and products are currently being developed that will help simplify the lives of consumers, providing a seamless data and power solution.

"The proliferation of USB 3.0 certified products is impressive, with nearly 500 million SuperSpeed USB devices currently on the market, over 5.8 billion devices are set to ship between now and 2016," said Greg Potter, Analyst, Multimedia Research Group. "USB is the most successful interface in the history of the PC and continued industry adoption will only solidify its position in the market."

The USB-IF and member companies will showcase the latest USB developments during CES being held January 8-11, 2013 in Las Vegas. To learn more about SuperSpeed USB, stop by the USB TechZone (Booth #31431) at CES or visit www.usb.org.
