I've recently began playing around with Topaz AI and my ASRock 16GB 6900 Formula OC really doesn't seem to be cutting it for this. Topaz appears to be optimized for Nvidia GPU's (I discovered this on another one of my PC's that has an EVGA RTX 11GB 1080 Ti FTW3 in it). Looking at the prices of used 3090's as well as the two 7900 XT/XTX versions all are far more sane than a new 4090 or even a 4080. This is a new facet for me and I'm not sure yet which route to take. There was a clean used MSI 3090 on Reddit hardwareswap yesterday for $530 and it sold in less than 5 minutes. Used 3090's are showing up on there every day now for under $700 and a few 7900 XT's have been even less expensive. I'd much rather have 24GB of RAM for this. Any thoughts or recommendations on how to proceed?

I'd go for a used 3090*.
7900XTX is faster but cost way more.
4070Ti/4080 are faster but also more expensive and come with less vram than the 3090.

*I don't know how the 7900XT performs in this.
I suppose it's faster than a 3090 and also comes with 20GB of vram.
But it's worth only if it can be found at decent price.

Yes. I'm sure 4080 is faster than 4090...

Yes I noticed that the top three Ada gpus perform similarly and thought it might be an engine limitation or something.

Are you doing video AI upscaling or just image?

Video. I have a huge collection I want to redo. Entire TV series and movies mainly from the 1940's to early 70's.

I'm most likely going to get a 7900 XTX for this. It's the best bang for the price at the moment other than a used 3090 plus I'll have a full warranty.
Get a 4070 Ti Super. Should be about as fast as a 4080, which is faster than anything AMD has.

At $800 it is cheaper than the XTX too.

I took a look on EBay just now for recently sold EVGA 3090 FTW3 cards and they all went for over $700 except one that went for $660. Some went for $1,000+ (pre-owned, not new). They are still very good for rendering because of high CUDA cores and larger video memory, better than the 4080 or 4080 Super (although the 4080s beat 3090s handily for gaming). The EVGA 3090 Ti FTW3 Ultra cards were even higher, with many of them sold for over $1,000.
