Using second NIC on mobo as crossover---without using a crossover cable?

Hello. Wondering if anybody has heard of linking two NICs together using a straight cable. I have three systems with two giganic's each, and many straight cables, but not a single crossover.

My most modern board is an evga 780i ftw, evga's search on their forum doesn't work. I even tried reading their killer xeno manual to see if it gave any hints...

You are better off getting a hub or a switch. They are very inexpensive.

You can get a D-Link 5 port switch from NewEgg for $11.79 and then there is a $10 rebate, so it costs you a whopping $1.79

True, but if you need to connect up in a pinch, some NICs have auto MDIX and will detect the connection properly.

brb ~10 min.. just going to try it, have to set up the other comp with stuff thats running now

update: tried it, didn't work. i'd think a piece of software might do it...

I've made crossover cables out of strait lan cables a few times takes afew mins max.

Let me know if ya need a wire diagram.

got it...ip conflicts. I am able to transfer files over the patch (crossed), but not get internet.
