Vf900 + 9800gtx+ ?

I just went and bought a 9800GTX+, but the huge ass cooler interferes with my SATA port.

I have a VF900CU on my old 8600GT, but I'm not sure if it will work properly on the 9800GTX. Will it work? Will the mosfets and memory overheat if I take off the stock heatsink?

Has anyone tried this yet?

Zalmans website doesn't list the 9800GTX as compatible, but it lists the 8800GT, which is similar.

I am thinking about cutting a hole in the plastic housing of the stock heatsink.

Someone enlighten me please

It should. Just use the same holes a 8800GTX or 8800gT would in the manual.

more then likely yes unless you put some hs on the mosfets

I guess I'm going to go ahead and give it a shot. I just hope nothing overheats on it.

EDIT: I have some of the Zalman memory heatsinks left, I'll try popping those on. Should the memory be ok without a heatsink? Memory in general doesn't really need exotic cooling, but I understand the mosfets do.

EDIT 2: Would I be better off just dremeling a small hole where my single SATA connector would fit into it slightly?

#1, would an angled sata connector work better? and #2, to be on the safe side, and because of the higher memory speed of the 9800gtx, you should put heatsinks on all vrm and ram chips.

I was gonna do this too but gave up and sold the cards. Honestly the cooler should be fine as the + version of the card is 55nm and should produce less heat than the reg 9800GTX card.

I have 3 9800GTs with the junk Asus alum coolers (look a little like the zalmans but arent as good)

When you take the stock cooler off be careful not to rip or tear the white pads (make sure to save them on the stock cooler incase you ever put it back on)

I ended up pulling the fan shroud apart, and taking a dremel to it. The card was so close to the sata port it was basically flush with it, an angled sata connector wouldn't work, plus I didn't want to buy one.

It worked great, and the cooler is actually pretty badass. I can put the fan on 100% and have it run 45C load @ 800mhz. Not bad.

Not that great of an overclocker, but it wouldn't hurt to give it some more volts and see what it would do. I kind of wish I would have gotten the 4850 now, but still, this card is a beast .

The 4850 has one of the worst coolers on it of modern cards IMO and creates so much heat that goes into your case its shocking.

The 9800GTX+ is by far the better card as stock, and once OCed will be even better...your card should be able to do 800|2000|1200 c-s-m without problems with the stock cooler..look at my system specs and see.
