Video card upgrade question.

I am getting my Stimulus check sooner or later. And i would like to upgrade my video card. Can you recommend me a good card? I can go nvidia or ATI. But i have a 680i SLI SE motherboard so i am not to sure about ATI. You can look at my specs and suggest a good card. BTW I don't care if it will bottleneck my CPU. I don't benchmark at all so i don't care about getting the best performance. I just want future PC titles to look good. My PSU is 600W and is OCZ brand. My case can fit any card out now.

Asking if it should be Nvidia or ATI will not get you anywere and just give you fanboy posts all over your thread. The truth is that both Nvidia and ATI will give good results .

Do you have any specific models in mind? or is price not a limit for you? only if you mention what models you have been considering that one can logically compare the mentioned cards, benchmarks are also available to confirm which is better.

How much do you want to spend? For example, an ATI 3850 or nVidia 9600GT both cost around 150 USD and are close in performance, although the 9600GT is slightly faster.

It doesn't really matter if you pair an ATI card with an nVidia chipset except, of course, you cannot crossfire two cards if you buy a second one.

Hell, for $600, even I'd get two 8800 GTS G92's and SLI them. You can get two and have $100 bucks left to spare, just about.

if you can wait, i'd grab the 4870, if you cant, the 9800x2, if thats too expensive, the 8800gt, and its thats too expensive, the 3870

they run hot, are power hungry and are still too expensive imo,

for his sytem core 2 duo @ 2ghz a 8800gt/gts G92 is more than sufficent for gaming on his 19" lcd (1440x900?) anything else and you wont see the benefit cause you havent got the res to take full advantage of somthing more powerful. why spend more than u need when you can have the same performance at 1440x900

8800gt/gts is my reccomendation (not a fanboi he has an sli board and can sli later on if desired) and then you could get a new 22" monitor if that $600 is still burning a hole in your pocket

8800GT or GTS G92.

Use the left over to grab a bigger screen (22inch) or slap a Q66/6700 In there and enjoy your new toys......your barely at minimal CPU speed for most of todays highend games....It'll only get worse with the future game requirements.Higher CPU speed will relate to better gameplay with candy.

The 8800gt has been the bang for the buck leader for quite a while now. The improvement over the 8600gt you have is dramatic (and I speak from experience).

I game at 1440x900. I will more likely get a GTS G92 or a 8800 GT so i will have some more cash left over. And i also know on newegg that the Q6600 is $219.99, so i may get one of those to.
