Built an newer old rig for myself the other day... Ghetto rigged a bit too + new thermal paste
    512mB 133Mhz
    64mB Geforce 2 Pro / S-Video to 1st gen 26" LCD i found on the road
    550mhz Slot 1 Pentium 3
Soundblaster Live / Midi Synth A for DOS
    40gB HDD
    Gateway PSU
Old wireless HP keyboard and Asus mouse
Been playing Morrowind & Daggerfall mostly... I get about 20-25 on Morrowind
I have some other games, but not a lot... What games do you guys play on older rigs? I'm a weird elitist retro prick I guess haha

I would at least load xp I ran XP with a 550P3 /384MB of ram and a geforce MX4
W98 is beyond dated and there is no good reason to use it

Well I'm just one of those weirdos you see pop on to the forums once in a blue moon soo
I have a rig that can handle games @ 1600x900 2xAA 4xAF High Settings, I just prefer to play old games on old computers... Plus I have a stash that's big enough to manage a healthy old school gaming computer, just no VGA monitors atm

    I dual boot Win98 & XPMicro
Besides KernelEX patches NT programs to run on 98
There is too much overhead to justify XP on this machine

TBH I was considering, however it seems like that would be unstable... In my my mind
However, I do use cpugrab for DOS gaming

Do you like strategy games? If so I would suggest Alpha Centauri. I was running it on an old system like yours back when it first came out. Civilization III is a good TBS game. Elder Scrolls III Morrowind, Max Payne 1 and 2, Unreal, Half Life, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Deus Ex and Fallout 1 and 2 are all great games that you should be able to run.

If that video card has T&L, I say the first Spiderman game. Also, and here's a beauty: Slave Zero. Damned fine fun game if you like manned robot combat. Never could get it to run after W98, and now GOG has it on their website!

Have TES 3 Half Life... Dl'ing FO1&2 Definitely getting Max Payne 1&2, Wolfenstein... I'll look at Deus Ex, Civ. 3, Unreal. Also gotta get SimCity now that i think about it never played it. What kills me is the fact that I have to transfer from USB 3.0 > 1.0, how times have spoiled us... Bitching about getting more than 20kB/s on an old PC
Edit* And CoD 1, 2 and maybe 3 and Red Faction

I primarily played Castle Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, UT99 and Delta Force(Handle was - IamCrazy) on mine. I actually used to host Delta Force servers on one of my P3's and play on another at the same time. I've had them all as far as pc's go, but my two favorites we're my 486 DX2-66MHz and my Deskpro EN 600MHz. I recently pulled it out to make sure it was running tip top, tried to load XP on it and it was too sluggish. I think I need more ram and the video card in it is a Rage card...not the greatest.

    DeskproEN.gif

I too would like an old Compaq CRT to go with mine...this unit is the one I saved, it's in mint/new condition.

I did want to mention that an old friend of the family called recently to tell me he finally got DSL in his shop(old school mechanic) so he could look up some parts and wanted to see me about getting his pc's upgraded 'a little'. I went down there to check out what he had...a K6 and a PII, both like brand new. I put a hint in to take that garbage away for him when I'm done...:)

I like the old stuff....brings back good memories.

    Best,

    LC

EDIT: Mindweaver...thanks for the list! I'll be writing these down. Commander Keen...forgot about that series...great game.

I lost most of my childhood to Master of Orion 2 and Mega'lo'mania on an AtariST emulator. MoO2 skirmishes used to take WEEKS to complete!

Freelancer is still my favourite game. Once you complete the storyline, you have to get friendly with the Corsairs (takes a looooong time) in order to get the best ship in the game, the Titan. THEN, you have to search various deep space areas marked with Hazard buoys and destroy the strangely named shipwrecks. They then proceed to poop out the most powerful "CLASSIFIED" weapons in the game.

    http://freelancer.wikia.com/wiki/Wreck

I believe Thor's Hammer and the Jade were the most powerful, but most energy inefficient.

EDIT: God I need a Freelancer 2. My life would be complete (note, SC is not a valid sequel for me)

I am not sure if anyone is still playing it, but install half life, then the mod SvenCoop.
That, the red alerts, civilizations, and Unreal Tournament should keep you entertained!

Think I'll dust off some hardware and give it a shot, if you check my System Specs....Nostalgic Hardware is about all I have anymore.... I can make the old stuff sing though...smile.

How the heck I missed Slave Zero I have no idea...I've been checking it out on Youtube. Looks like my type of game...;). Thanks for the heads up on that one.

Fate 1.. I used to run that on my old... Celeron? 256mb memory and 16mb graphics memory all on a 80GB HDD. Worked like a charm for a very long time.
