Hello, I'm new to the forums. I just built a new system last night. It was quite successful, just a few snags here and there. Anyway, I'm having trouble getting Vista Home Premium x64 to install. I have an ASRock P45R2000 Motherboard. I can get past the screen where it says Vista is loading files. I then get the black screen with the green bars moving back and forth. I am then presented with a blue screen which I know is the basic Vista background for installation. I get a mouse pointer. After hanging for a minute or 2, which I find odd, I can begin the installation process. However, every time I click next it takes almost 4 minutes or more to move to the next step. Regardless, I am able to format my HD and begin the install. The file copy stage is done quite quickly. After about 3 minutes or so the expanding files stage starts. It usually gets anywhere from 21-27% complete before it hangs. Hang meaning the system completely freezes. The mouse doesn't even work. I even let it run all night just in case since I've read about similar problems. Any ideas? I'm stumped. The strangest thing is that I can install XP without a hitch.

Specs:
ASRock P45R2000 Mobo
Core 2 Duo E8400
4GB OCZ Platinum DDR3 10666 RAM
Radeon 4850
Seagate Barracuda SATAII 500GB HD
Samsung Writemaster SATA DVD-RW Drive
CoolerMaster Real Power Pro PSU, 550 Watts, SLI Certified

Thanks! :D

PI'm assuming 2x2 gig sticks?

If so, pull one of the sticks and try installing again. That's what I had to do with my system. After everything's installed and working, reinsert the stick and you're good to go.

sounds like it might be your ram... take one stick out, and make sure that the latency and voltage are set correctly, and try again, if it fails, try memtest 86+ (convienently located on the solaris dvd 3.0 with many other great tools) and see if your ram passes the test.

I've tried that. I get the same symptoms. My voltages and timings are correct. The mobo got them right on the first boot. Why would I be able to install XP Pro x64 without any problems but not Vista? I've thought about slipstreaming my Vista install DVD with my Mobo drivers.

I doubt it's the problem, but make sure that your USB setting in the bios of for highspeed and not fullspeed.

Try connect your hdd to another place on the motherboard - That has helped me before with that kind of problems.

Well, it ended up being a driver issue. I used vLite to make a slipstream disc with the critical inf files needed for my board, and Vista installed like a charm. I think it was my storage driver. All systems go. Thanks for the suggestions guys!
