Hi everyone, i have an rx 580 8gb and i want to upgrade. I have a high end system and the only lacking part is my gpu at the moment.

I have been saving for sometime now to buy a new graphics card, and the prices seem to normalize.

My question is should i wait for the amd 7000 series and the rtx 4000 series OR buy one of high end gpus such as 6800xt or 3080 ?

I am in no rush for a new gpu, my rx580 still going strong although definetly started showing its age. I wonder if the next generation will be considerably faster than this gen.

You pretty much answered your own question.

Worst case: new GPUs are not too impressive price/performance wise. The "old" GPUs will be around at the same current price (or cheaper), so you can still get the one you want within your budget and gaming needs.

Here's my thinking about it. The latest and greatest will from now on be scalped unless they do something about it. If you can't easily buy a current gen card for retail price, I doubt you would be able to get the next gen ones easily as well.

Hi,
Regional
EU I suppose has had some price reductions thread in the news section seems to show on some gpu's

US while availability is getting better prices are still high that I've noticed I've about given up personally nvidia is the only gpu's at msrp and they are no where at bestbuy the only retailer that nvidia allows to sell them except scalpers that get them from bestbuy lol

Wait until next gen, rumours are that they will be a lot faster than current cards and AMD will fix their main weakness with ray tracing.

The answer always depends on another question: What do you want from a graphics card that your 580 isn't providing? The answer to that leads to another: How much are you willing to pay to get it?

Next gen probably won't be a ton faster. We may be past big generational leaps. But if they are, prices will most likely rise to match. General rule: Get what fits your current needs, as there's always something better just around the corner.

Then break it again with their drivers.

I remember when i waited for a new GPU back in 2017-2018. If i had bought a GTX 1080 Ti then it would have been the best PC investment i ever made. Fast forward to 2020, when RTX 3060 Ti came out at MSRP price. I said that i will wait for AMD's offer and for spring-summer 2021 so that prices go down. We all know how those decisions went.
Inflation will go up everywhere in the civilized world. There are rumours that GPU prices will go up because of the war in Ukraine. There are rumours that prices will go down since Nvidia, AMD and Intel will not be directly selling their products on the Russian market. ETH 2.0 might come this year, crypto market could go down or up.

So, in my view. There is no better time to buy a GPU(or anything else) than today. At worse you would loose money in the short term. At best you would have made a great deal.
But, the most important question is, should you buy a new GPU or other component ? are the games that you are playing not running at at least 50 fps on your monitor screen ?

I'd say stick it out for the NVIDIA 40 series cards. This isn't hard and fast though.

Best buy 3080 12GB now and use it without regret for 3 years, but be aware that it might cost $500 in december. This reminds me how people started to sell their 2080Ti at $500 ahead of 3070 launch and it was the worst decision ever. Also 40 series wil be 60% better, not more. I mean 4070/12 is a 192 bit card, so kind of 3080/12 replacement.

Personally i expect next gen TSMC 5nm GPUs to be quite a bit better actually, pricing on the other hand though...

Been seeing tons of nvidia driver troubles as well.
Hi,
Yeah as high priced as power color gpu's have been it's though to see why anyone could buy them lol
AMD & nvidia combo build is my biggest fear lol

Mining is the elephant in the room. If the next generation mines better than current-gen cards, they'll be just as unavailable; and MSRPs/actual prices will be just as high, because AMD/NVidia/AIB vendors have all figured out that miners aren't especially price-sensitive.

If the G-7 powers ever decide to kill crypto, the GPU market will go back to what we remember. That would be a fantastic time to buy a new card. But between now and then, buy for need rather than for want.

I just hope that used 2080 Ti prices come down as I always buy an used flagship card from a generation or two back.

Just wait. Hold onto your RX 580 for a while longer. 7600 XT is rumored to be on par with the 6900 XT, whether that's true or not we will have to see.
