I recently moved fromAMD to an Intel platform
(Please see updated specs) I'm using the OEM Intel
cooler that came with the proc
I got a Zalman 7000 B cooler in trade for my old
Arctic cooler pro. I bought the clip support kit to use
it with the socket 775.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118219
I noticed that my motherboard does not have a plastic
backing plate on the underside of it to support the weight
of the cooler. Do I need one or can the motherboard itself
support the weight of this cooler?

If you got a clip with the new cooler, use it if it will fit on the board,if not i think it should be ok depending how the cooler attaches.

Thanks Tigger69 but I need some help from someone who does know
how it mounts and can give me a heads up.
Click on the following link and click on the "how to install"
Pick socket 775 and watch. The first piece that goes on the underside of the board is what I lack.

I'm In Minnesota. The closest computer store that stocks anything is about 100 miles away. I went to the local Best Buy to see if they had any scrapped boards that I could pull one off of. The geek squad guy said "We don't have any computer parts here!" Which I thought was pretty f*ing funny considering they are supposed to repair computers.

I'll check em for you. I'm pretty sure I didn't change any of the stock voltage settings but I'll double check to be sure

Well you can live without the backplate. But sometimes it can break the motherboard because of the weight so its better to stay on the safe side.

Vdroop would be what CPU-Z reads as the voltage, will probably be lower than the 1.4v you have set.

The board should support the weight of that Zalman. I doubt its heavy enough to do any damage to it whatsoever. However, if you feel not overly confident with it, you can snag one on the cheap. Backplate that is.
