SO im going to be buying a GTX680 next week as a lot of you guys already know since ive been touting it all over the place, but im just not sure which one I want. I really want the Lightning card, but for 599 im not sure its worth it since I won't use a lot of its features, but the cooler and quietness is nice along with the fact the voltage is unlocked. I was also looking at the Evga Signature 2 with the dual fan cooler for 519, since it would also be a little quieter and cooler, but no where near Lightning cards level. Money isn't much of an issue which is another. Go big or go home, but 599 for a GPU. Not to sure about that. The lightning card is just sexy.

If money isn't an issue why not go for the 690?

More like, if money isn't an issue, why is the $599 price mentioned twice along with the phrases 'not sure if worth it' and 'go big or go home'

Since money actually seems to be an issue, just buy the MSI 670 Power Edition. Its the Lightnings little brother and will perform nearly as well and probably save you close to $100.

^That card. No doubt, that's what I would get. *Wait, it's a 670. Not much in stock with nice coolers on them. Get the lightning.

Definitely the lightning MSI makes great cards and the lightning appears to be continuing the trend.

Actually, I can relate to that and would likely buy the top card, even if the performance increase is small and is why I got the 580 over the 570. I simply don't like buying crippled versions of products and it would leave me feeling unsatisfied with it. However, this is just me, so others should get what they're comfortable with having.

I don't know, Newegg has been getting restocks of most of the GTX680s like weekly.

I've got a reference Asus 680 and it's way quieter then the 6970 it replaced. I'm extremely happy with it. Clocks to 1150 with ease also, very little extra heat.

I would buy the EVGA card..... If you are not going to use all the extras on the lightning the EVGA card is the way to go.

The EVGA card still is the signature and includes the 5 phases. (Unlike the reference EVGA GTX 680 version which only has 4.) It also has the great EVGA customer service and warranty backing it. It also has better cooling then the original Signature version. It has good components (Probably not as high end as the MSI card) but it is close enough to the reference version that things like water blocks will work for this card. Which is an added bonus. It's a great card!

The MSI card while a great card also it also has great cooling and great components (Better components then the EVGA card) I also don't think the Components are that much better.... they are more a gimmick then anything.
However MSI customer Service is not as good as EVGA's nor is it's warranty. (They are actually rather hard to get a hold of most of the time.)
The PCB is also way different then the reference version so water block and aftermarket cooling will be a real challenge if you want to maybe go that route in the future. I also don't trust the extra VRM's you can add to the back under the chip. It looks like a Lego kit or very cheap add-on to me. A marketing gimmick.

After listing these both out I would still go with the EVGA card. If you want the added "Military level components" then I would say skip the MSI card and the signature card and buy the EVGA Classified version (Which would loosed the Duel fan cooling). You would then get that level of components but without being all gimmicky.
But if you can live without that or if the classified is not in your price range.... then go with the Signature card. It is just the better card IMO.

The Classified EVGA card is lame the whole thing about requiring the EV bot to do anything is a deal breaker. and its like $700+ no thanks. if i were to do that id just buy 2 GTX670s

It actually requires that???? That is something I did not Know.... LOL.... I agree with you on that then. I haven't played with a classified yet. (Where did you see that information I would like to read about it)
2 GTX 670's would be way better then that.

I consider that gimmicky too.... Then yeah the GTX 680 Signature 2 fan version or the GTX 680 FTW (If you can live with the single fan) would be the way to go.

The whole reason why i was even looking at the Asus DirectCU, MSI Lightning and Evga Signature 2 was because they didn't have 1 fan haha.
