My current specs are:
i5-10400
RTX 2060
512gb wd ssd
16gb ram clocked at 2666MHz but their max capacity is 3200 but the cpu doesnt allow it. (2x8)
(I would also like to know why this is)

Cooling:
I have one exhaust fan at the rear and 2 in take fans at the front
and i have a standard stock cooler for cpu cooling.

(the rtx 2060 in my system rn is a founders edition btw)

OCP works per output wire not per rail. You could trigger OCP even if the PSU is single rail but you use a single PCIe cable to power a hugely power hungry GPU.

that depends on how the PSU is configured, and i dont know how this one is designed internally

If your bronze PSU powers your RTX 2060 fine, then it will do fine aswell with RTX 3060Ti, i think its about 10-20 watts more which is nothing
There's no telling how well his PSU tolerates his current 2060 other than "the PSU is not actively tripping OCP or failing catastrophically (whichever comes first)", which isn't a good measure by any means. If the standards for PSUs are "it doesn't catch on fire" perhaps that might not be good for other parts in the build.

Probably the last guy on youtube I would ever listen to about power supplies. If you must go to youtube for PSU info at least go to Aris's channel

To be honest, most of the popular tech youtubers cater toward the pre-teen noobs who want to use their weekly allowance to buy their first gaming PC. It's mainly just opinions and answering basic questions.

But for actual real information I recommend watching the GamersNexus video: Wasting Money on Power Supplies: How Many Watts You Need for a PC PSU (2020)

Provided that your power supply is GOOD quality and is GUARANTEED capable of delivering 400 watts combined on the 12V rails without blowing up, then an i5-10400/3060Ti system could possibly fit within that 400W envelope with no overloading issues. But yours is rated at 384 watts combined, so you might not have much breathing room there. I wouldn't be bothered trying to do it.

I would recommend just upgrading to a newer 550W or 650W unit. Power supplies can last a very long time and spending money on a high quality one is well worth it. The power supply will be under less stress, you get less ripple and better stability, you get a good warranty and they're quite affordable these days.

But for actual real information I recommend watching the GamersNexus video:

Not really a fan, his written case reviews (a lot of testing is actually done by Patrick) are excellent but his declarations of being an expert in every field and called out other reviews as invalid can be a bit narcissistic. Plus I think I can do better with L" Oreal and a good looking actress if I want to watch a 20 minute video of a shampoo & conditioner commercial with a tech podcast for audio.

Just go for it, your total system power draw is about 200w when everything is on full load, so your 400w gold should juice it up nicely

System power draw for a 10400f is 150w.

A 2060 alone draws 164w: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/evga-geforce-rtx-2060-ko/31.html

The 3060 draws 175w during gaming.

Saying the system draws 200w at full load is simply incorrect., typical system power consumption would be 325w in an ideal gaming scenario with no background processes running. That's not including any peaks, which the 3000 series is know for nor does it account for capacitor aging. That's particularly important given the age of the PSU, which was released nearly a decade ago now. Add in programs like discord and steam that take extra CPU cycles and you add a bit more to the power consumption.

There are multiple red flags from the age of the PSU (which impacts total power output and quality of power supply) to how close this is cutting it to the maximum sustained wattage in an ideal scenario for his system with only a game running to the fact that the unit only provides 384w out of it's labeled 400w on the 12v rail.

I would advise that you not take the risk. You should leave at least some breathing room and a PSU that old begs to be updated regardless.

at full load the 10400 consumes 55-60w. i dont suppose ram and ssd with a few fans will consume 90w
Not too sure about that low of a wattage, but TPU's reviews should help us out!

Intel Core i5-10400F Review

Entire system while gaming with a 2080ti doesnt hit 400W

Can we please stop arguing about the exact wattage figures because we know its under the advertised 400W of the unit, it all comes down to "we have no idea, but its close enough we suggest upgrading anyway"

My RX 5600XT has hit the 160s for watts before in GTA V, IIRC. (the "jailbreak edition") Albeit it's usually very brief. GTA V at 1440p, nevertheless is a GPU core workout!

i would try it because the power supply has the protection features : OCP, OVP, SCP, OPP, UVP

and normally there is a bit of headroom on total wattage.
i am not saying this is good on long term use.

Just go safe and get a 600w corsair this will meet more than your needs but a safe option to avoid over stressing the electrics on components

Read reviews maybe?

And also I really want to reiterate it's not only about watts, it's about group regulation (ie any PSU for <€60) being crap for modern loads.

jayz2cents posted this yesterday. good timing.
Jells with my philosophy, and I've advised peeps asking about PSU to always step up higher than what is needed, for added headroom for future upgrades. ALL my PSUs are 1kW or higher, and I have four of them......Enermax (MAX REVO 1500W), Seasonic (X-1250) and Corsair (HX1050, HX 1000 Plat). When it comes to PSU, I don't cheap out or go for 'just enough'......

Probably yes. Your PC should be ok if you don't overclock it. But try to get at least one 650w, so you make sure you dony have any future problems

Unfortunately there are not many channels left for knowledgeable information. Part of the reason is that PSU are much better then they were two or even one decade ago. While there are plenty of mediocre units out there you also won't find as many bombs as there used to be; units that may be dangerous to your PC (or even home).
While that's good news for consumers, many of the knowledgeable people stopped or no longer cover PSU. That also allows a lot of misinformation as well.

For example;
hardware secrets - still up but hasn't been run by Gabriel Torres for almost a decade (maybe more). His reviews were excellent.
hardOCP - folded but forums still up
overclockers - pretty much stopped reviews in 2012
Jonnyguru - reviews stopped when Jeremy left two years ago, site has been down for two months (most likely done) and as bad as losing the reviews are, losing the forum is even worse. Multiple reviewers from other sites and people working for PSU brands posted in that forum. A lot of PSU knowledge and information no longer there.

Luckily we still have (I recommend)
anandtech - they only do a handful of good reviews each year but something is better than nothing
kitguru - very good PSU reviews
Aris - obviously here (TPU), on Tom's hardware, and his Hardware Busters youtube channel
Jone Gerow has been on several different youtube channels as a guest as well
