My friends pc has a falty graphics card and he needs a new one. I've got a spare x1950gt but i'm not sure if the power supply is good enough to handle it considering it needs extra power from a 6 pin connector. It has 19v on the 12v rail rated at 300w maximum.

Ps. The problem with the current card is that it artifacts with strange distortion and lines down the screen. I cleaned out the dust as i thought it could have been overheating but that didn't really fix it. I also tried reinstalling windows and the drivers but that didnn't help either. I think its just broken.

Must be a old card, i dont know about x1950gt power uses but if it needs a 6 pin connector, he is going to need a new power supply. I would stay with the bare to bone 300 watt PSU's that come with OEM computers sense ive been blessed with high quality PSU's now. That 300 watter must be a little old, it would be good to get a nice Corsair 400 watt PSU and hook that sucker up.

Hi, its currently running an 8400gs and the pc is a few years old. Do you think it could run a low power card like the 4670 or something oir is it best just to get a new supply?

It has an e6550, 2gb ram and a 250gb hdd.

Aye any card with no PCI-E power connection should function just fine actually.

EDIT: This is to power a 4870 btw. Will post on General hardware too.

I've seen these PSU's that look good for the money.

must be ok then?

Triple +12V rail design supplies highly stable independent outputs for CPUs, Graphic card, HDD and ODD for best performance.

According to the compucase website this PSU has 3 12V rails each rated at 18A, not bad for the price.
