Alright so my mom lives in the middle of nowhere so she had to get some wireless internet service out here. The guy who came and put it in put in some homebrew wireless card in the computer. Well she had to format the computer and now we don't have drivers for the card and windows update doesn't do any justice. Her computer is an old HP desktop. I took the card out to see what all I could find out about it which wasn't much. It's on a RouterBoard 11, but the card installed into that I couldn't tell what it is. It has a serial number on the back (044363520) underneatht hat it says NL-2511MP PLUS. When I had it plugged in I googled the device ID and it came up Intersil Prism 2.5. I found drivers for those and installed it but it ended up just trying to use it as a LAN card not a wireless card. Anyone have any info on this? I can post more info about it if you need. Just trying to get this set up for her before she gets home from vacation.

I've installed a few things already. I've installed one for the Intersil Prism 2.5, Senao NL-2511MP Plus, and some other one that I found. The Senao looked promising but when I tried the WLAN configuration utility that came with it it said there wasn't a card installed.

Just so it makes it more clear, Are you using windows xp? If so try using the windows wireless detection thing, sorry been a while since i used xp and i don't use wireless so forgot the name on the windows wireless networking thing.

Also make sure you remove old drivers before installing diffrent ones.

Check this site out its where i got the driver and it has loads of info that might help.

Alright, I've got all the drivers installed now but in network connections it's still showing up as a LAN connection, not a wireless. I'm using some software and I can see her wireless connection, I just can't connect to it..

Sending you PM.

Try disabling the main lan so it don't show up to, this might force windows to detect the wireless proper.
