my computer old..about have 5 year..my proceses P4 2.4 478socket, 1GB DDR1 n x1550 agp.. i tried to change my agp card... cos my computer very low end..if i change my board to run 4GB DDR2 ram n HD4670 PCIE.. will be more better in gaming??

definitely better than what you have.

first off, please dont make thread titles like "Help", its annoying and very rarely warranted.

A better card will obviously be better for gaming. And if you are going to get a new board u'll have to get new CPU since your Socket 478 will not work with a DDR2 board (i dont think 478 had DDR2). Unless you get one of those magical Asrock boards that allow to switch between sockets, run either DDR or DDR2 and PCI-e or AGP. And 4GB is not really needed unless you are going to switch to Vista, for XP 2GB is plenty.

thx techjunkie.. actually the proceses got effect on gaming??

 yes it "will be more better in gaming"

KBD.. i from malaysia.. they have BIOSTAR P4M900-M4.. so i can save my money to change board, ram n card.. others can use back i m using.. =D

whoa, it actually does support DDR2 up 667 and PCI-e, a rarity for Socket 478. But regardless, i still think that you will benefit from getting a dual-core CPU and you'll see a difference in gaming (& everything else) if u get it. Doing the kind of an upgrade you want at this point makes little sense unless you are almost broke. I say pick up a e5200 or e7200/e7300, a cheap board and some DDR2. Alternatively, you can get an AM2/AM2+ Athlon 64 X2 or a 7000 series Kuma, a cheap board and again DDR2. The AMD ones are usually very cheap. Trust me, that will give u more frames in games, than your old P4 that will prolly bottleneck the HD 4670 anyway.

yea i know.. but i does have so much money for now..=( so i have to change slowly 1st.. later going to change proceses.. XD my board so outdated.. now i want to play NFS undercover also lag like hell without effect.. also lag.. i hope after i change the board, ram n card will be no lag like now..!!

Upgrades not worth it, Well i guess that depends on what games you plan to play ?.

A faster CPU not going do all that much all though a v card could but this depends on what kind of gaming you plan.. Lets say you even put a ATI 9800 or even a 1950 in there the PSU might be a big issue there which none of use know due to not putting it in your system specs.

I'd save your cash till you have more. How much you have to spend ?.

hmm.. i play online game more than offline game.. if i offline game also racing game only..
ATI 9800 n 1950 what different in PSU?? not enough power effect game lag??

yea, i understand what you are saying: upgrading in stages as money becomes available. I just would like to give you another option to think about. Consider this: your plan calls for buying a new board, low speed DDR2 and HD 4670. And when you have more money you'll upgrade again in X number of months and will have to buy yet another new board and CPU. Then you'll have to go through the hassle of selling this Biostar board and the your P4. Instead of doing all that try this: buy an Athlon X2 and a 780G or a 790GX or an nvidia 720a/GF8200/GF8300 board right now along with some higher speed DDR2 (800 or 1066). Those boards have integrated graphics (for AMD its 3200/3300 i belive) which is slighly better than what you have now. This will still improve your gaming somewhat and there is much less hassle of switching components multiple times plus you'll wind up with better DDR2. then in a few months all you have to do is get a an HD 4670 or better if u have cash.

+1

means he/she agrees with the opinion stated

Im a dude by the way....

I completely agree with what KBD said. Best way to go if you are on a tight budget

what is that +1?

yep, exactly what Radeon sed.

just consider what i suggested, i really think its a better option for you. Do a calculation of what makes more sense financially and go with the best option.

hmm.. AMD n Intel.. Intel better than AMD?? i heard people said.. AMD cant do programing??

never heard that before, that actually sounds pretty stupid. But Intel is better, yes. But AMD is cheaper and you are on a budget. If you prefer Intel then get an e5200/e7200/e7300, nvidia GeForce9000 series board and DDR2. Basically a similar setup as the AMD one i recomended but it may cost you more in Malasiya.

Intel is better but AMD gives a better price/performance ratio. You get more than your money's worth with AMD

yea.. in malaysia many people buy AMD.. but.. bad in programing.. my friend said they use AMD to do their software homework laggy.. other friend said Intel no laggy.. same software n graphic card..

"Help" is an unacceptable thread title. Please take the time to write something descriptive for your thread titles in the future.

Please don't do that. If you agree with someone say so and explain why. This is a perfect example of why responding to a post with "+1" is not only against the rules, but a bad idea because you confused the original poster.

I only suggest buying amd if u want to do minor oc's or no oc's at all. Otherwise go intel.

Maybe peterang could post the on-line places he can shop from (if buying on-line) and a budget. Then the guys here could actually piece together a system for him within his budget. I would say looking at his system specs he needs probably a new PSU, MoBo, CPU, Memory and a decent VGA card. Possibly a bare bones deal might be a option?
