My multiplier changed from 8...to 6...

and i cant change the multiplier, even manually, unless i had a E6800.

I have an E6400 with an Asus P5B Deluxe,
cpu default is 266mhz by a 8x divider to get 2.1ghz

now its changed to 6x...meaning im on 1.6ghz

i say again, ftw?

Have you tried overclocking? Perhaps the lower multiplier will yield a higher front side bus...

Its the intel Speedstep. You can disable it in Windows by not using the portable power theme. Or by disabling it in BIOS.

Im pretty sure if you RMAd it, theyd just throw it back at you.

Where are you getting that reading from? CPU-z? Doesn't Intel's Speed-Step do that? Check to see if Speed Step is enabled in the BIOS.

EDIT: Ooops! Ghost beat me to it. lol

whats the Portable Power Theme??? Never heard of it...

and i cant find speedstep in bios

The P5b deluxe will definitely have the option to switch it on and off. Look in the manual.

As for the portable power theme, look in control panel and power schemes. Make sure something like laptop/portable or max battery isnt being used.

You havent used something like crystal cpuid to change the multiplier have you?

i have no idea what that is lol
if its a desktop softoverclocking tool - NO
if its a bios setting - Maybe, but i dont remember touching anything like that

I looked at the manual and speedstep is there, but in my bios i dont have it

all i have is:
Modify ratio support - Enabled
Ratio CMOS Setting - 6 (Which i cant change)
C1E Support - Disabled (Someone told me it gave better performance)
Max CPUID Value Limit - Disabled
Vanderpool Technology - Disabled (Greyed out/ Not accessible)
CPU TM Function - Enabled
Execute Disable Bit - Enabled

Double check to see if it is actually Speed Step causing the problem. Run CPUz, then fire up a cpu intensive program and see if the multi jumps back to 8x in CPUz

ok we reset the bios settings to default and speedstep reappeared on the list...but why lol....

EDIT - This bios is a piece of shit, we have this weird ass ucode error every startup, this "new" bios was supposed to solve the problem but all it did was add extra features like support for the x1950s...woot
