With more than 9.3 million registered users and partnerships now with 21 different publishers, Origin, the direct-to-consumer gaming platform from Electronic Arts (EA) Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) has quickly become one of the industry's leading online game services in just over two quarters since launch.

Origin announced today that seven more publishers have agreed to offer their games for purchase and download. Led by Remedy Entertainment who will bring Alan Wake to Origin, additional publishers include Focus Home Interactive, Iceberg Interactive, Strategy First, Macro Games, Selectsoft and Legendo Entertainment. These publishers join 14 previously announced Origin partners, including Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, THQ, Capcom, Trion Worlds and Robot Entertainment.

Origin has recently recorded several notable milestones:
  • Since June 2011, sales on Origin have generated more than $100 million in revenue;
  • Nearly 40% of all copies for Star Wars: The Old Republic sold to date were purchased via Origin;
  • More than 9.3 million users have registered and downloaded the Origin application, with daily active users peaking at more than one million players.
In addition to more than 100 titles from EA including Battlefield 3, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Need for Speed The Run and FIFA 12, top titles from other publishers on Origin include Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's Batman: Arkham City, Saints Row: The Third from THQ and Rift from Trion Worlds.

"The momentum that we've achieved with Origin since launching in June has been incredible, buoyed by great games and great partners," said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President of Origin at EA. "Our fast-growing user base demonstrates the interest from gamers across the world in fully-connected, 365-day digital game experiences. We're committed to evolving and expanding Origin to help players get the absolute most out of their games, and we're just getting started."

In addition to fast and safe game downloads for many of the industry's most popular PC titles, Origin's features provide a more dynamic and convenient play experience for the gamer. Beyond the fast download capability, automatic log-in and built-in customer service, Origin's in-game overlay and chat with friends features make for a more lively social experience, and cloud saves let gamers save and continue games from any computer, anytime, anywhere. Live streaming demos on Origin also allow gamers to try some games before they buy.

Cool, with new publishers distributing over Origin, Valve has no other option but to wake up its game development team...New Half Life, new Source-succeeding game technology will be expedited.

exactly. now valve has some real competition and will have to develop more of their blockbuster titles. EA is a slow moving behemoth that lags the entire industry behind. valve is far more malleable and resilient. long live valve!!

so they created origin to basically monopolize over steam?? thats what it basically sounds like. imo it's not nearly as good as steam. origin has a ways to go

im not buying Star Wars because Origin sucks so much

Oh god, please don't. I don't want another exclussive releases on shitty Origin. Steam is enough and i don't want to run 10 game clients constantly. I hope games will get released on both platforms, otherwise i won't buy any of it.

From your mouth to Gabes ears!

Steam fanboy4lyfe. To hell with you Origin, charging full price for all games. Ruining Bioware. Catering to the big developers. Where's the indie spirit? Afraid that Indie games created by two people in their mom's basement have better gameplay value than any $100 million project EA creates?

EA saw the massive success of Steam and a lack of competition so they entered the market like any good business would do. we should see some really interesting price wars in the future.

we should boycott this disaster.

Im uninstalling that crap... getting tired of BF3 anyways.

Well your product usually gets popular when people are forced to use it for your games...

Prices for the EU market are horrible:(

Bloody ea the only reason I have origin is for bf3 and I had to msconfig to stop it from pissing me off at boot

WOW. 9 Million Users... Of course, if you forget the ones that already had an EA Store account, those who were, literally forced because of BF3 and upcoming ME3 and those who, like me, only technically have an Origin account for playing one of the EA free MMO (Need for speed World in my case)... That 9 million number will go down... A LOT

EDIT: Those who are in Europe... Here in Latin America, the prices are set in €. I mean, only because we speak spanish, they set the prices to euro. That's rubbish.

Shame no one has come up with an app that will log you into all of your gaming platforms like they have with IM and social networking, 1 client to rule them all....

Why am I considered part of the Euro market? I live in the Caribbean, a stone's throw from Florida and have that fucking failure of a currency to deal with if I want to use Origin (US$1= EC$2.7169 vs €1= EC$3.53). I shall be purchasing a physical copy of Mass Effect 3 stateside and have it shipped here. Yes doing that would actually cost me more than just buying it on Origin but, I am just not letting Origin have any more of my money on principle. That is all you're gonna get from me EA! You effin money grubbing goons.

End rant.

That would be nice. But it would also allow hackers to concentrate on a bigger prize IMO. Think if a hack could crack all your gaming delivery systems. Man that would suck. Losing one is bad.....but all?!

Dude just take a ferry to Miami and stock up. I bet if you cut Chicken Patty a little cash he would meet ya at the port. I would if I was still in Miami.

That's really odd, as most of the games on Origin in Asia are cheaper than in the US...
The only downside is that you can't change the language to English, which is a real pain...
On the plus side, I can print out a form and go and pay in a local 7-11 and the game will be ready to download by the time I get home...

Origin sucks real bad!
Only reason i´m using it its because of BF3!
As soon as i get tired of it i will most definitely unnistall it!
No way i´m gonna buy ME3 trough origin or even play it also!
It´s amazing how you dont even have any option to backup you games like steam does!
And they still call it Origin beta did you guys noticed that?!

EA: ZOMFG!!! Shareholders, lookie at how successful our fat ugly baby Origin is!!! LOOK LOOK!

Shareholders: ZOMFG!!

Consumers: FUCK YOU EA FOR FORCE FEEDING US THIS FAT UGLY BABY!!!

EA: Did you hear something?

Shareholders: No?

EA: K, me either.... ZOMFG ORIGIN IS SO ERRSOME!!!

So true same deal here.

Two key words there.. They could be 2 place or 100th place and be, makes me wounder were gamefly is on this..

gonna be hard to boycot a beheamoth like EA due to all the sports titles sold for the Xbox alone.

we can still try though!

EA can go suck my nuts. I hate them equally as much as I hate sony!
After they raped and killed CnC and made it in to a steaming pile !

They own bullfrog! I wish they would sell it off so they would re-release some classic's :-)

As for another game client it took steam 10 years to get good.
