newbie here.i have a compaq pressario sr1610nx that has a ati radeon xpress 200 right now and a guy said the card in the link was good. but i need to know if i can just pop this in without more power or anything? i know very little about this and installed a new processor in my pc though help from here. i am looking to get this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102034
i am looking to run, brothers in arms,rfactor,gtr1&2 scareface my card now has trouble playing them.
thanks

Hi there. I don't want to advice you to buy that card. I just rma'd his brother the X1950 Pro from Sapphire.:D

If were you i would spend 10 or 20 more for a better brand. Palit/Xpertvison or something.

Or get a X1900GT they are cheap now.:toast:

I smell a psu issue!!!!!!
i got the 1910 version for my lady and it's only got like a 300W psu.....just a thought ur getting a pretty big bang card, make sure you have enough power to run it!

YOU are right Sneeky. Forgot to tell him that. 30 amps on 12 volt rail.

Technicks, even though YOURX1950PRO failed, it doesn't mean you have to libel about AMD's products, it was YOUR fault that YOU overclocked it. X1900GTs can't be unlocked anymore and run hotter so what is the point of them?

X1950PRO is good so yeah, try and get the Powercolor model with the AcceleroX2 installed.

LOL Tk, you took what technicks said wrong.

He is not libeling the X1950 PRO, he is libeling Sapphire.

Re-read his post..."If i were you id spend 10-20 on a better brand"

Also guys, look at Ron32's games. They dont need such a high-spec card (unless playing at super high resolutions).

@ Ron32 - If you only play the games you mentioned, and arent really going to play anything new, get: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102050
Pretty cheap; $80 after MIR and you wont have to worry about your power supply, etc.

If you wanna play later games, and keep your computer futureproof, get the X1950 GT/PRO.

But as i said, if you dont want to worry about your PSU and case and stuff, and only play the games you mentioned, the X1650 PRO will do you just fine, as well as save you a bit of money :)

Do you really need 30A on the 12V rail to use an X1950 Pro. That sucks because I only have a 550W Antec PSU with 24A on the 12V rail and wanted to get an 8600 series card in a while. Does that mean I won't be able to? Because I assume any 8600 series card is better then a 1950 card so that means more power right?

I think he's just joking. Mine works fine on a 500VA PSU.

Which model? 8600GT or GTS? The GTS will need a bit more power than the X1950PRO (assumption). I expect that the 8600GT will be the crappy midrange.

I still say he doesnt need such a card (X1950 PRO) and can do fine with an X1650 :D

But Ron35, if you have the money and dont mind spending it, and want to leave the gfx there for a while without upgrading, go X1950

Man read before start flaming.
Ever heard of Ebay? You can buy a rev 1 X1900GT for cheap there. Maybe they run a bit hotter but with good cooling that is great card.
I had problems with the X1950 Pro before i overclocked it. Hell from the moment i purchased that card i was not satisfied with it. I had to buy a different cooler. Yeah, i also tried the Accellero X2 on it but no change to the positive.
And i am all about AMD so don't give me that cr#p.

Guys dont start flaming each other over a brand :p

It was a simple mis-understanding ;)

Just a question technicks, were you against the X1950 PRO or just Sapphire in your post above (I took it as against Sapphire)

Sorry Pinchy.:)

I am not really against Sappire. More the X1950 pro from them. I think i will get the X1950 XT from Sapphire again. But they have a different board layout. So i am not that worried about those.;)

Sounds good :)

Ive always known Sapphire to be a great brand for ATi, but i have heard a lot of problems with their X1950 PRO's. Hopefully, the X1950XT is good :D

I hope so to m8.:) I only have to pay 40 euro's extra. So a good deal i think.
My luck that i already have the Zalman vf900 and Accellero X2 so no cooler problems this time.

LOL both coolers, you cant go wrong :D

Ive noticed that though (even here in Australia), the X1950XT is only a bit more expensive than the X1950 PRO. But i guess thats with a stock cooler, and decent 3rd party is like another $50 here :p

I have read that the stock cooler from the X1950 XT is crap to.

The Zalman is about 25.00 euro and the Accellero X2 is 15.00 euro.

And the X1950 pro is 156 euro and the X1950 XT 205. Cards are expensive here.

That is why i got about two or three cards that i bought from the US. Ebay.;)

Accelero: $33
Zalman OEM: $38

X1950 PRO 256mb (Powercolor): $250
X1950 PRO 512mb (XpertVision): $260
X1950 PRO 512mb (Powercolor): $315
X1950XT 256mb (HIS): $340

All w/o postage...but its in AUD, which is like double Euro :p ($1AUD = 0.66 Euro)

i wanted to get X1950 GT .how do i tell what my power is? bios? and will this card be good in my pc. i dont wanna get one i cant use,and want one alot better than my radeon xpress 200

first off guys before we throw cards in his face :P

do you even have a PCI-Express slot in your PC?

hehe

oh and for the PSU, open the case up , right there on the power supply itself it SHOULD show you the max watts on it

12v recommendations are based on entire system, not just what the VC requires. Amps are much more important than wattage.

it says 250 watt max i dont know how to tell the pci express? i know its intergrated card

Do you know the make/model of the PSU, if so; we can look it up. If it is a OEM PSU it probably will not power that card. If it is only 250 watts it will probably not power that card.

it says Bestec
Model # ATX-250-12Z REV D2
