Hi there,

I am a total noob at this whole gaming thing. I am wanting to buy a gaming PC for my son. He mostly plays Fortnight.
Can you please tell me if this is a good one?

Thank you in advance:)

6 core Ryzen R5 and GTX1060 ... it's a good mid range combo and Fortnite is going to fly ... however, there's nothing about power supply on the list (pretty important) and you could do with a better motherboard (listed model doesn't exist but I suppose it's MSI B350M PRO-VH)

for $2400 usd you can buy a gaming laptop with a 1070 or 1080 in it for less(I am using a Acer Helios 300 predator for $1700). If it is a desktop and you are looking for pre built, as much as I hate to send you there but cyberpowerpc.com has much better rigs for less, PC
so locality unknown I assume US. Some of our UK members may help better with partspicker and a budget.

then you have enough horsepower for a smooth gaming experience but as mentioned above the psu model and capacity will determine the system stability and sanity of asking price

If you're willing to build it yourself, I'd go with this instead, it has mostly similar specs, but a few nice upgrades like a 144Hz monitor, larger SSD, faster WiFi and RAM

Sure you could build one yourself for cheaper, but maybe having someone else take care of that and still getting a 3 year warranty is worth it.
Power supply is very important, and if you could I’d check to see what kind of monitor is included (might be a weak point) and try to bump up to a 250GB SSD for that same price. Internet-wise I’d bed you’ll never see 300Mbps wireless anyway but newer standards are usually faster so I’m not sure why it’s slow.

Basically I’d say it’s fairly overpriced, so getting the price down would be nice, but it’s a fairly solid build.

Consider this,

From the above listed part averages and retail partnerships it more than likely cost that company around $1600 to $2000 to build and market for sale. consider the retail price of $2400 and you get a complete package with monitor and basic mouse and keyboard. If you take a look at the pricing, the place your shopping at is asking around $400 to $800 depending on margins to build, install windows, update and install all your drivers and verify that everything is working out of the box. They are also offering you a free 3 year warranty and technical advice if anything ever goes wrong. It's also nice to have someplace to physically take your machine if anything goes wrong. It may seem expensive at first but peice of mind is worth a lot, at least that's my two cents. Either way it's not the greatest deal but it's not the worst either considering what they're offering.

a good rule of thumb for buying a capable gaming or media use PC is as follows.

a minimum of 4 cores
minimum or 8Gb's system RAM
a Good quality Power Supply (a quick google search will give results to answer that) seasonic, Corsair, EVGA, NZXT, etc
a Proper CPU cooler,

a GPU is pretty easy to pick
minimum of 2Gb's Vram, preferably 4Gb's
a GTX 1060+
or a Rx 570+
this doesnt mean older Gen GPU's wouldnt work, but since these are current GPU's, its easier to mention them.

There's a lot of reasons that I'm grateful & proud I live in the United States ,but pertaining to computer related matters, I am so thankful when I go to buy a computer I can do it for under $1000 (minus the jerky miners ruining the market ). threads like this remind me how truly lucky i am.

Almost 30 years of computer enthusiast level hobbying, and I still haven't paid over $1000 for a complete computer build.
