The "Perfect" RTS

could someone recommend to me the best RTS which fits this description as closely as possible.

Online gaming is not spam one unit (IE CnC) Instead use a variety.
Long games, more tactical approaches rather than building a few buildings then spamming tanks or whatever.
A variety of units (Air, scouts, heavy etc etc)
One slip up doesn't cost you game.
A good tech tree.
Good, unique and well designed factions.
Big maps.
Enviroment is not just for scenery (IE it can be used to your advantage, maybe utilizing trees etc)

Try World in Conflict when it comes out. The beta was pretty good.

It's based on a fictional conflict between the US and USSR... think Red Alert but serious story line.

Rome Total War is not an RTS, it is a Real time-tatics game.
I'll try world in conflict, but these war on terror games are never what they're meant to be usually

Don't play Rome Total War, it's old news. Play Medieval Total War 2. Also, it is an RTS. Also, if you ever want to be stomped I'll play you online. :roll:

Company of Heroe's is great, but I got into Supreme Commander much more. It's got the depth you want, it's huge, you upgrade all sorts of things, it's a beautiful game, excellent zooming. Supreme Commander is easily the best RTS ever made! I play it when I wanna get technical, I play CnC3 when I want a quick round of action. Rise of Nations was pretty damn good too, in a similar arena as supreme commander but a little more fantasy and not quite as good. Hope that helps! :toast:

Loving Supreme Commander too. Smashing LAN game and they can go on for hours. I remember a 6 hour match before we finally decided it was a close draw.

I also like Dawn of War & Winter Assault, but hate the limitations in Dark Crusade.

Ehh..WC 3 and WC 3 Frozen Throne both have extremely good single player...Online games get old quick (UNLESS YOU PLAY MODS LIKE FOOTIES, DOTA, and Tower Games!!)

Ah, forgot about Company of Heroes. Probably the best RTS out right now.

COH has great single player, but gets old horribly quick.

Supreme Commander is awesome, horrible single player though. Multiplayer is the way to go with Supreme Commander. (More for hard core RTS players.)

Give Medieval Total War 2 or C&C 3: Tiberium Wars (Not the best Westwood Title), both are my personal picks right now.

But the AI is good enough for a great offline AI Skirmish...and with HUGE MAPS, it's great fun online and offline. I've barely touched the storyline due to Skirmish and Online. Be warned like stated earlier the rounds can take HOURS! But they're in depth and worth it! Supreme Commander FTW! :toast:

Supreme command FTW!

Massive economy, massive macro, massive micro, massive size!

Doesn't get much better.

But it would not be a smart game to get into unless you have a pretty fast machine.
