OFFICIAL Star Citizen

Since what 2013 and this game still isn't released? O...M...G!!!

Considering the scope of the game I wouldn't expect it to be done quickly. 5 years isn't bad IMO. If we get the final release in another year or two I would be stoked but I can wait if the final product is as awesome as it looks like it can be.

For a project starting from scratch on almost every aspect of the game including its engine which was revamped not too long ago this is quite normal in game development. And that is 'normal' when you consider a fully budgeted projected with a pre-defined scope and an existing development team. Star Citizen expanded over time in almost every aspect, most notably the team(s) working on the game. That takes time, lots of it.

I signed up in 2013 and it still isn't getting to game stage in my opinion. I just love playing space sims eg: Freelancer , I just don't know. And the Downloads each 2 years when I try again is freeking massive LOL o_O I also love Wing Commander the movie which was highly criticised but I don't care. That Guy in the movie was in THE Boat also and I like that too a lot , ( sounds like I'm dribbling shit ....watteva)
Another annoying part is the updates are FREEKING massive too haha lol and don't do f- all in my opinion, I think but I'm no expert. :lovetpu:

There are some other gems out there playable and released these days that come very close to Freelancer. Elite Dangerous most notably, or if you like it more tactical and not online/built for online play there is stuff like Starpoint Gemini 2 and many others. Space games are back with a vengeance in all shapes and sizes these days ;)

That game was terrible. WTH why Development Team

Not since the 3.0 patch. New patcher, only patches what is needed. No more 2gb minimum garbage.

Apparently, Chris is asking for another $46million in investment/funding lol....

What. The. Hell?

Got a link?

He has brought on board a venture capitalist firm for investment. They're ponying up funds for a return I imagine. I can try and find it on Google.

If that's correct, it's less crowded funded now and steering towards corporate.

Edit: Clive Calder, owner of the Zomba group. Not a VC. But he invested 46 million. Valuing SC at 500 million.

Good and bad then:
1) Good, a major investor is going to put deadlines on CIG that they need to meet or risk losing control entirely of it.
2) Deadlines naturally implies cuts to production so what has been promised will be on the chopping block?

This is like Freelancer deja vu. Microsoft ripped control from Chris Roberts and handed it over to a Phil Wattenbarger and Jörg Neumann to finish it. The end result was still a good game but it wasn't what Roberts envisioned.

I would have loved to play this game 5-6 years ago but now I am so over it.

I think Chris Roberts vision is too 'visionary' to actually be achieved. That's his problem. The game has grown with his vision but that growth isn't defined with a precise end. As you allude to, having a large investor on board will likely draw a line in his cosmic dust.

Indeed, Peter Molyneux has the same problem. Someone with business sense (project manager) needs reality check game designers like them or they will always run over time and over budget.

I watched enough of this game being developed so a team created this star wars type mod to which I played. A mod for the game Freelancer (same guy developer) and the game was cool

The current 'in-joke' at the moment seems to be that most of the money from crowdfunding has gone on their trailers and marketing than the actual game itself :roll:

Most productions (video games, films, music, etc.) are about 50-50 marketing versus production.

With such an investment you can kiss almost anything but the PU goodbye. Moddable, self managed universe? Nahh unlikely. My fear is that they will toss everything on always online, PU related and make this yet another grindy, MTX infested piece of junk. And this time only because Roberts doesn't know when to stop and essentially loses control of the project that way.

It looked so promising, all of a sudden it doesn't... Its one thing to already rig your game economy during development (store ships), but combine that with a big investor and you've got a cocktail of nasty.

Looking forward to see what comes of this. I really haven't been keeping close tabs on this, I kind of stand in the same position that @Easy Rhino does where I was gung ho in 2012, heck even up to 2016, but now I'm not as hardcore space sim as I was. I still haven't even checked out Elite Dangerous after the latest release. My HOTAS setup has been gathering dust on the shelves, and really the only space-sim like game I've been playing is the excellent indie title, Void Destroyer 2 as it nears beta and gold releases near the end of its EA cycle.

That being said, I do know there's going to be one helluva experience here, I'm just hoping it's released soon enough and stable enough to be a worthy experience. I'm looking forward to SQ42 and really hoping it is the awesome story-drive space sim experience many of us gamers from the 80s and 90s are hoping for. I still see a potential success here for SC, though it's got a lot to prove that trailers and screenshots can't provide. Whether or not they'll get it done is yet to be seen, but I see this outside investor with its inherent pressure to get a finished product as something that might need to happen to keep the devs on rails. After so many years of changes, additions, extra promises, I'd like to see what they can accomplish and release in 2019.

Anyone been playing the recent 3.x releases of SC? Coming back to this thread has me thinking a download may be in order...

It has been more than two years since anyone posted here. This is still probably the best place to post about SC game play. If there is a better place please let me know.

I last downloaded and played SC in 2018. I think they had just released the FPS game mode at the time. There was very little content to explore. As of May 2021 the game has content, enough for me to spend a few hours on. It is clearly far from finished but it has made progress since 2018. Maybe not enough progress given the length of development, but I think it is worth taking another look at the game.

Just fired up.

My eyebrows rise at the CPU usage... oh... RAM also, but that's fine...

For me personally best and most honest way to find out truth what are the news in SC is to visit star Citizen Discussion on Elite Dangerous forum as I give up long time ago on Spectrum/Star Citizen official forum it's just to many shills around there and If someone dare to criticize the game/demo in there it will be banned or eaten alive from the regular-white knights....
I mostly trying to play SC after every new patch and as I remember latest patch was last week or something....and for me it's stil just MEH it's a still same old bugs + some new,Frame rates are horrible in certain areas and better in other....yeah sure the game still looks nice for the eye but the actual gameplay for me it's still very boring or non existent.......

I have not been checking what others say. I have been looking for myself every 3 years or so. The last time I looked in 2018 there was barely any playable content. Now there is actually content and it so far in my experience is worth playing. It took 10 years for us to get to alpha, which is silly, but we are finally here.
