The new AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT we review today is the world's first graphics card using a 6 nanometer GPU. With just 100 W during gaming, the RX 6500 XT is very gentle in its power requirements, but also held back by the 4 GB VRAM size and PCI-Express 4.0 x4 interface.

I think those raytracing numbers in Control and Doom need a visual check. +1% sound like it was not actually enabled.
 
As a buyer in this segment, I wanted RX 6500 XT to be a proper RX 5500 XT successor:
- sub 90W power consumption
- same encoding/decoding options as previous gen
- 6 GB VRAM
- 96-bit bus with 16 MB Infinity Cache
- PCI-E 8x
- sub $200 MSRP (that is basically the only thing that was delivered)

The thing that released is more of an RX 550 successor and it should really be named RX 6300 XT (also, the efficiency is horrible). I guess I'm waiting for next-gen and/or hoping Navi 23 gets a cut down version ...

Wow, the 6600 is way more efficient, I was worried such high clock speeds would mean excessive voltage, but is it the voltage that's responsible? :confused:
 
RX 6500 XT might be to GO-to Card for entry level prebuilts from DELL, ACER etc.. but Only if they can PRICE IT RIGHT!!.
maybe just for esports titles & entrylevel pc gamer .(1080p medium 75Hz Freesync gaming)
but i wouldnt pay $1 more than the MSRP.
maybe if one can wait 3-6 months when it becomes MSRP(fingers crossed) and enough stock.

The RX5500 XT had a 128bit bus and 4 or 8gb vram, and launched for 169 USD. They just needed to the same with an architecture refresh or even just push more 5500XT out the door (haven't looked at the numbers yet but seems like it would be better at this point)

Around 2% higher average relative performance with around 10-15% less power than 5500xt. 5500xt looks like it would still be the better card when comparing direct retail pricing.

It wasn't worth the engineering time for anyone involved in designing it. I doubt even the die space savings on the newer process are worth the price to design a new card and of the new process it self

Would be okay at MSRP. But let's not dream too much.
Except it wouldnt. This card is often slower then the RX 570, a $150 GPu from 2017.

It is almost always slower then the 4GB RX 480, a $200 GPU from 2016 riding on the old 14nm node.

Both these cards had better decoder and encoder options, 8GB VRAM options, and were available over half a decade ago.

The 6500xt, at $200, is an utter ripoff.

Hell they could have just given us the full 5500xt (the 5500xt had 14 of 16 CUs enabled) with an 8GB bus on the 6nm node. But no, AMD needs to milk every penny they can from their bizzarely loyal consumer base with this oxygen thief of a GPU.

Here's what gets me: this 6500xt is often slower then a 570, though not always by much. By extension it's MAYBE 5-10% faster then a RX 560.

The RX 560 was a 75 watt card from 2017. I have one. How on earth, with that clock speed, 6nm node, and 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory, did AMD manage to engineer a card that draws 100 watts yet is barely any faster then a 5 year old 14nm card with 5 Gbps GDDR5 memory? I mean jesus there's wastes of space and then there is actual TALENT at making something utterly horrible.

Polaris was very efficient when it was undervolted, pushed beyond 1100-1150 Mhz it tended to lose efficiency quite dramatically (on stock volts anyhow). 1300-1350 Mhz was pretty bad on the stock curve. So, I wonder if the 6400 will be a lot more efficient than the 6500, but if the clocks are substantially lower it's also going to end up slower. Very puzzling, perhaps AMD just cut the die down too much.
 
Only one model at 299$ available at Newegg. Other options with 199$ sold out.

The technically correct answer is the agressive core clock speeds out of this poor and thin GPU complex.
The casually correct answer is that RTG is now at rock bottom with product launch ethics.

The RX 6500 XT card truly has proven that the saying "There are no bad products, just bad pricing" can still somehow be wrong, even for a graphics card in 2022. Amazing.

Sold out here too. If people aren't buying these for mining, then who is? :confused: If you have a 570/1060 it's not even (or barely) an upgrade.

Intro page says 64 ROPs... but this card has only 32 ROPs at leat at AMD website specs. It gots 64 TMUs, not ROPs.
