Nvidia 8500/8600 Series Overclocking and Feedback thread

Nice GTS btw, Paulieg! That reminds me, I almost bought a Leadtek 7300GT Extreme for sh*ts and giggles and to see what it was capable of! The egg had em on sale for around $70 shipped at the time.

we need some proof ! :toast:

LoL! I found this rather funny and thought I'd share it with the rest of you folks... I've posted this in the HD2400/2600 thread as well, for reference. ;)

With the latest review from TechSpot on 09/12/07 regarding the 8600GTS vs the GDDR3 HD2600XT, his conclusion was as follows :

Steven Walton said:
Therefore, in our comparison between the Radeon HD 2600XT and the GeForce 8600 GTS, we have found the Radeon X1950 Pro to be the winner, go figure

The test was soley between an ASUS Geforce 8600GTS and a VisionTek HD2600XT GDDR3 512MB video cards. If you read the full conclusion, you'll notice that he brings the Radeon X1950PRO as well as the Geforce 7900GS from previous testing into the picture to come up with the quote above and thus the final conclusion! :ohwell: :D

I find this kind of humorous, as ALL of my testing shows better results out of my 8600gts than my previous card, a BFG 7900gs with a GT chip. For example, my 8600gts gave me almost a 30,000 advantage over the unlocked gs in AM3. All of my 3dmark scores are much better to. I wonder if this review testing was done with early drivers. If not, I don't really see how they got those results...

New Aquamark3. Please erase all other banchmarks from my name but Aquamark. Dome with settings in my sig.

All you results are erased, and AquaMark 3 seult submited :) :toast:

Hmz what with other tests, you run them again or what ?!:wtf:

Well im lost for words!

I bought a new zalman cooler for my gts which has brought the temps down loads. It kept hitting 75 degrees on stock speeds and cutting out.

With an overclock to 770/1050 its runs perfectly stable at 52 degrees. Which is a lot better than the 75 i was hitting on stock cooling with stock speeds.

But i run 3dmark 05 and only scored 8818.

What is going on. A user with a 2.2 ghz x2 athlon scored 2000 more than me and both my cpu and graphics are clocked higher!

Can anyone shed any light on why my computer is so slow!

My speci s on the left!

leadtek 8600gt

I need some help. My aquamark3 score is about 93,000 and 3dmark05 is about 9500. I'm trying to perform a pencil mod for some reason I can't overclock my card much at all without losing performance. After numerous analysis people came to the conclusion more I need more volts. For some reason it just bogs down with no artifacts. the fastest benchmarks I've had have been at stock speeds. any ideas for a little more power?

Check your "pencil mod" thread. I found some links that might help. :toast:

well, you know 100% that you rams running in dual mode?! and check rams timings in bios, that might be work !

Is ram running in dual mode not good?
I can confirm it is running in dual mode.

But with the timings i have lots to chage but don't really know what to set them to.

Dual channel is better than single :P
Generally, lower is better. 4-4-4-12 is really good for DDR2.

I have the 8600gt by leadtek. people have overclocked it to 660 and 1600 but, if I go above 560/1500 it slows down and stock is 540 and 1400
