NVIDIA Project Beyond GTC Keynote Address: Expect the Expected (RTX 4090)

Hah, no, not for me. Jensen is completely out of touch with reality. 899/1199 for 4080? I guess the "layering on top of Ampere" is now complete. Personally, I don't care how good these cards are, if Nvidia is making me pay 900 bucks for the entry high end, I'm out. I can skip this gen.
It's even worse than that. The RTX 4080 12 GB has 47% of the 4090's SMX count and half the bandwidth. The closest comparison in Ampere is the 3060 Ti which has 45% of the 3090 Ti's SMX count and a bit less than half the bandwidth.

Why do we want to buy 4080 12GB with $900? It is pointless, can easily found used 3060 ti for $250 and passing this gen. Also, If DLSS 3.0 is exclusive on 40 series, DLSS 4.0 won't come 40 series so again what is the purpose of buying 4080? Nvidia chose miners over gamers last years, now their fate are controlled by gamers. We will see how it ends.

There is always a solution - don't buy.

Another thing to mention is that RTX 4080 12 GB is a different card, not the same as the 16 GB version.

Quite a weird naming, they should call it RTX 4070 12 GB or something...

I am really wondering RTX 4070 price and performance. 7680 cores are pretty low for 4080. If 4070 have 5944 cores only 10-15% performance difference also come with 12GB VRAM, it will kill the 4080.

So considering that the 3080 12GB, 3080ti, and 3090ti are relatively close, the only static performance increase from the 30 series is going to be the the 4090ti

As of now I’m kind of disappointed, they did price them to coexist with 30 series cards, not that that’s really of anyone’s benefit *shrug*

Proprietary software implementations should not be advertised as a key selling point, exactly what lead to first gen RT and DLSS being a joke. They get supported in 3 games, then ditched. Up to 4x performance, LOL okay leather jacket man.

Looks like there’s a huge performance hole left for them to slot in the 4080ti and 4090 as expected. This release is even more boring than the 30 series cards to me :(

Prices are in line with what?
The last xx80 tier card was $699.

Maybe NVIDIA is pricing their 4080 cards significantly higher which will convince some people to buy cheaper 3080 cards to draw down channel inventory.

:):p:D

Given what we have seen today, I expect the 4070 to have 40 SMX or less, i.e. 5120 FMAs or less. The 4060 Ti, also known as the 4080 12 GB, will be at least 30% faster than the 4070.

4080 12gb is actually a 4070. Nvidia put this model in the 8 series to make the model look cute and get more money, 2 times the price increase compared to the 3070 It's too much. I don't understand this price increase.

What power supply wattage is recommended for RTX 4090 was it announced yet?

What's worse is that everyone knows the 4080 12GB was supposed to be the 4070 just like the 30 series launch (3090+3080+3070), and last minute Jensen decided to "layer" it on top of Ampere by just rebranding and adding $300 more on the price. Well done Jensen.

His leather jacket collection won't pay for itself mate.

This whole launch is a mess, no true raster numbers, two different 4080 models with wildly different specs, not to mention the insane prices. The only thing I can see from this is another 20-series-like launch. Higher prices, barely performance increases and new RT/DLSS stuff that's only on the new cards. I feel a pattern coming up.

Let's hope RDNA3 fares much better.

I think 4090 will impress us performance wise, but 98% of gamers won't be using it, so I mean eh your point stands overall. I agree, 4080 two variants is stupid as shit.

Lisa Su, please save us. RDNA3 to the fucking moon boys!!!! :rockout: :rockout: :rockout: :rockout: :rockout: :rockout: :rockout: :rockout:

Yep as many others have said, the pricing is crazy, which was to be expected from Nvidia. I'll pick up a 4090 with a WB on it already in a couple years for half the MSRP, lol.

All the models I've seen sport the new 12pin or 16pin connector can't remember it's name... My guess is a normal non gen 5 psu 1000-1200w and maybe 850-1000w for those supporting a native connector. Depending on the rest of the system specs.

This is horribly sad

On top of EVGA leaving the GPU market, I’m looking at other ways to entertain myself in a sparing free time now.

I hope RDNA3 will at least be interesting; some magical leap to match RT performance would be exciting to see!

Ya the thing is if people ever want the crazy pricing to change, they have to be more disciplined and not buy this stuff at such prices.

Imo the most impressive stuff out of that keynote is the software specifically the new moding tools and DLSS 3.0

If DLSS 3.0 is specifically for the RTX 4k series then its dead to me and 90% of Nvidia's market. They cant keep making technology for 1 generation at a time, who would invest in that?

Apple does this every year with their new iOS release: certain features on run on the newly released handsets. They're called iPhones. Have you heard of them?

Apple seems to have survived using their feature release strategy.

Also, it's not an investment. It's an expense. Investments are things like Class B shares of Berkshire-Hathaway or 10-year Treasury bonds.

iPhones have been declining as well but everyone is there for their eco-system. If Nvidia had an eco-system as robust as Apple's then i can see what your saying.

I clicked on the link but couldn't find the pic, do you have a link?

The pic is there in the comments section.

That jackass Hueng is going to market a 4070 as a 4080. He's not doing this because he has to. There is only one reason he is doing this. To take advantage of the uninformed gamers and make them think they are getting a real 4080.

Given the inflation, I expected a 10-20% price increase, just ok. Without cryptocurrency demand, availability near msrp should be realistic. 50% higher performance is ok. 100-400% in special applications/configuration is good. New tensor core uses/apps for gaming is great, a lot of new potential.
Since RT/4k entered the gaming sector, a new consumer GPU class was designed, which can be used semiprofessional, 4080/4090 with >=16 GB VRAM and will stay above 1000 $. I don't see any problem here. Overpriced are the low and middle class GPUs from 4050 to 4070, if the prices are similar correlated to 3050-3070. Just my opinion.
