Youtube now let's you watch 3 videos and then you have to buy YouTube premium for $17 or €16 or disable add blocks extensions to watch videos

What can we do not to pay for it every month and to be free of ads

Twitch is the problem for me, I have never had any issues with ad blocking on youtube, always felt google just let it happen.

Twitch on the other hand is a constant battle, and up to 3 minutes of ad's every time I hop channel plus a homepage thats really aggressive shoving channels in your face not on follow list.

I just cycled through about 5 videos on youtube, so this problem affecting you thankfully isnt affecting me.

It works using edge knock on wood but not when i use chrome

I´m using FF, havent see Ad´s in many years on YouTube. As a ad blocker i use AdBlocker Ultimate and Ublock Origin. Twitch ad´s comes in waves, some times i can go a week without seeing one ad, other times i get 3 ads in 10 min and then usually none rest of the evening.

Enhancer for YouTube™ was the reason

Well if YT is something that you visit a lot is it really all that much. It's like I'm feeding a stray cat even cheaper but i can't vote for them having big families or anything. Can't believe you people, i live on 10$ a day and saving 5$ for a PC at the same time. Also People have activated their Google storage and get taxed the same amount without any need and don't even care. Anyway i don't use blockers just skip the blight or click on a video then another and go back takes a second and there are no more ads at the beginning at least until they fix it and force it. But that's what Google is for you a marketing company. It owns the world. It's funny the frustration. 16.99 is a family plan for five must be family man. It's just 5,9 for me.

Ublock Origin sorts that shit out real quick. Download the extension for your browser. Update the filters and you should be good to go

::EDIT::

Also force purge/update the filters once in a while. sometimes the database gets corrupted or youtube tries some funny business but ublock origin is always on top of it once everything updates.

i had it for the first time today that brave with strong adblocking had a frozen video followed by an ad. (like the website was stopped and it was shoved in between)
after that i had the "no adblockers on youtube, buy premium" popup in german. adblock worked 100% fine before until now.

luckily i only had to disable enhanced youtube in chrome

It worked in edge, what i didn't had installed in edge was enhanced youtube, tried it and now it seems to work normally for me without adds or anything unsually

You're not required to watch YouTube. YouTube is a service run by Google. It requires a lot of resources to transcode users' videos, to store them safely, to make them available as quickly as possible. Google will provide this service for free to end users, as much as possible, but at the end of the day somebody has to foot the bill. If you don't like advertisers footing the bill, then I guess it must be you.

Another point is that the creators of the videos get more money from premium watchers. I don't give a toss about Googles money, but the makers of the videos I care about.

I would argue once you reach monopoly status you should be required to offer affordable options for youtube premium based on disabilities, incomes, etc. When someone is in a wheel chair by no choice of their own and only getting 900 a month on disability for their entire income companies have a responsibility to at least make their lives better, they can't afford to buy the shit in your ads for one thing, so make a premium option discounted for them (Amazon does this for Prime subscribers just fyi so its not impossible or unheard of) Youtube is 100% monopoly, sure you have Floatplane/nebula and some others, but they are like 0.1% of the traffic. Also, making emergency type videos ad free, such as "how to save someone" should all be parameter's that make those videos ad-free. so if you run to your phone and type in "how to save someone from choking" you get accurate video immediately and no ad. whether or not you like it, once you become such a mighty influence in the public domain, you have a responsibility to uphold, this isn't the wild west, once you attain power your duty and responsibility increases, otherwise everything collapses. so while I agree with you about 90% of the way, there are some caveats and pre-requisites I would require before agreeing with you 100%

as someone who only watches about ten people on youtube, yeah this is pretty cool.

I would use FreeDownloadManager to download the videos and watch them offline. ;)

But i don't use to use Youtube/watch videos there anyway.

Ah yes, a for-profit business which consistently tops the world's most expensive, bandwidth-hungry websites and pays not only its creators but also the music and movie industries out of pocket for all of the pirated stuff everyone uploaded onto its platform for decades at this point had the gall to start a crackdown on rampant ad blocking and custom clients, they are certainly worthy of the "money hungry bastards" title when they somehow operated for 17 years the way they did.

I say, as long as one has an active Premium subscription, let everyone use their adblockers, custom clients like ReVanced, etc. - give these users an API key they can use to play videos and use the platform the way they want. Otherwise, play by the rules and watch the ads.

Another point is that the creators of the videos get more money from premium watchers. I don't give a toss about Googles money, but the makers of the videos I care about.

Which is exactly why I'm a Premium subscriber. Or why I subscribed to the TPU Patreon, for example. Same deal, really.

I won't get into politics but it is not a business's responsibility to make products more affordable based on what you perceive to be a limitation of any given individual. This is a big No. YouTube is a business and a for-profit venture, so the only thing that they must do is offer their users enough value. Do you think supporting the creators on the platform, getting access to their music streaming platform and getting rid of the ads gives you the monthly fee in value? If so, then subscribe to it. Otherwise, nothing really changes.

They already offer regional pricing, adjusted to the local economic realities, that is enough.

none of it matters anymore anyway, we have already surpassed the 1.5 celsius marker of climate change set out by the Paris accords, we thought we had like 40 years... with 1.8 celisus climb in temperature globally reached in september 2023. hundreds of dolphins died outside of Brazil last week cause the ocean is too hot, and its only a matter of time before mass famine comes for us since we rely on monocrop agriculture based system with high yields, not to mention to sustain the high yields we already spray with chemicals (due to bugs) that fuck with our endocrine systems. we fucked around and found out. plan to grow your own crops? don't bother, the roaming bandits will take them. our temporal reality, ignored for the satisfaction of our short term pleasures. what a shame, we were capable of so much, yet so little.

Their ads have gotten really bad. Almost to the point where I don't really want to watch it anymore.

How come no one pays me to watch commercials? After all, it is my time too.

To be fair, much of the content on the toob doesn't even deserve half of the commercial's it gets.

Take a look at this: https://research-methodology.net/alphabet-inc-organizational-structure-divisional-and-flat/
YouTube is its own division. And one that hasn't been making money since Google purchased it. You're more likely to see it shut down or sold to someone else than seeing them accept a dip in their already inadequate revenue stream.

Also, I have a hard time calling YouTube a monopoly. These days YouTube is like asking people to read Nature. Hence, they're all flocking to TikTok. For others, there's Twitch.

How come no one pays me to watch commercials? After all, it is my time too.
The same way nobody pays you to go to the movies, I guess.

Why would I want to pay 50 bucks for shitty popcorn lol?

I just wait till its available to stream, or I buy it.

Ublock Origin will still kill the ads in Chrome (though for how long, who knows).
Watching YT in the app on phone or on Roku though - total s-show w/ the ads.

At the provided link I'm missing the informational flow between the different companies as that is the real payment of Alphabet and their subsidiaries. There is one big profile storing and telling who did what on which platform, what he searched for etc. That data is also (ab)used for marketing reasons in general. To direct marketing campaigns. And that is what alphabet or one of the daughters are making money with. If they cannot generate revenues by data collection they try to charge.

Just think about. Facebook knows your relation status even before you know it on your own.

^^^This^^^ It is ironically amazing, in a pathetic sort of way, how some, who clearly are NOT destitute, living on the streets and rummaging through trash bins for half-eaten sandwiches, or sleeping under bridges to get out of the weather, using cardboard boxes for a blanket, whine, cry and complain that they can't have something for free - as though they are entitled to it - at others expense. And then when they don't get their free hand-outs, they accuse the others of being greedy, money-hungry bastards. Really sad.

Nobody, including me, likes to pay for something I previously enjoyed for free. But I accept someone must pay to produce this product or service and make it available. No one can do that for free, forever without having some sort of revenue stream to support that "charity".

I would argue once you reach monopoly status you should be required to offer affordable options for youtube premium based on disabilities, incomes, etc.
Required? Really? If you owned a business that you run to support your family, would you really want your government to force you to provide discounted services to others? Do you want your government all up in your business making sure you are giving what they consider to be your fair share?

Are you going to pay, out of your own profits (if you have any left), to research and verify all those people claiming to be in need, really are in need? Are you going to pay, out of your profits, to verify people claiming to have a disability really are disabled? Do you expect taxpayers (of which you are one) to pick up the tab and compensate and other business owners? Or do you expect your government to force your neighbors and other citizens who have some money to just donate their money to compensate you after you are forced to give away free your product or services to those sticking their hands out?

I am NOT insensitive to those in need, or to the disabled. I spent 24 years in the military. I have close friends with disabilities. Some truly need, and deserve all the help, financially and otherwise, they can get. Poverty is a real problem, and deep rut some cannot escape from - not from lack of trying or through no fault of their own. I get that. The rich, indeed, need to give their fair share. Loopholes in our tax systems need to be closed.

But the rich (individuals and companies) should not be forced by the government to become charities.

YouTube is not an "essential service" - like a power or water company that is the only provider in the area. While I would certainly argue that YouTube has monopolistic tendencies, it is not a monopoly as there are plenty of YouTube alternatives.

Having said all that, YouTube does offer an affordable option for everyone - we just have to put up with ads, just like we do with free TV and freeware and so much more.

Lol and yet the corporate welfare is constantly being doled out by the Federal government. It's a two way street my friend.

EDIT:

Just to be clear I'm not talking about forcing a business model (though that could depend on the situation).
It's more about there's no free lunch or unlimited icing on the cake, they should be paying a fair share as most here do.

Are youtube money hungry bastards ? (do to my limited english vocabular i couldn't say it any different if i don't want to use words liks ass, hole, idiots, fuck and......)
If you use youtube and spend your time making and uploading videos then want to monetize them so you get some type of money back, Would you then moan because people are blocking adverts that make you money on your videos?

I hate adverts on a lot of things especially when its just a small 5 or 10 min clip of a random thing i might watch once but if its a channel i watch loads, i will turn the add blockers off and watch the adverts.

just like how i won't block so called adverts or popups on techpowerup
