Starfield discussion thread

Ideally I'd like a lot for Hull and Weapons, so Power is important to me too. I just read a little bit ago that the highest rated reactor has 50 Power, but not sure what it's Hull rating is.

OK, watched the vid, and I can see you are in thruster mode. From the way you described it earlier I thought you meant you were going full speed while moving away from the enemy. Clearly though the engines stop firing when Thruster mode is engaged, and I also don't see th eaim as being different, as you're still firing forward with th reticle limited to the larger circle. Thus I don't see how one could keep firing at an enemy while moving away from them.

Nice ship btw, but where does one get a Nova design ship? I like that everything like the mounts are easily accessible, looks like it wouldn't be too hard to build/upgrade.

There isn't. Highest power reactors are 40.

Yes, you engage the enemy, then fly away from them at full speed, then hold space, and you can turn around and shoot at them, while still flying away from them - essentially flying backwards... i dont get how it is so hard to understand... xD

New homestead.

Found out the best turrets are only single shot (all 1.5 speed or slower weapons are), thus lost half their dps with only half power... so decided to go with some lesser turrets, that doesn't lose dps from reduced power (only slower reload once the mag is empty).

Just need a better gravdrive now (lvl 60), and it's done. And yes, it will have cost me 1 million... lol.

I eard this game is in a BETA state, that's why thee is already texpack mod :

// if ever you need it, game actually looks good in VR at 1080p, so if you don't have VR you can use the texpack.

TexPack for the newest game, that's alpha, not beta.

What will it be when TES6 will be out ?..

What a facepalm post...

I'll look at the vid again if you insist I'm wrong, but it DID look like you were only firing toward the front of your ship, so how firing at enemies would be possible going away from them, yeah, it's odd to me you describe it that way.

BTW I did find a chart that shows what I assume is the full list of reactors, and yeah, the max is 40 power. You are convincing me 1950 hull with efficient weapons choice may be better though. The higher the hull number the longer it takes to destroy it, right?

Correct to the last part.

Funny that it's the same number of NG+ you can do, so I guess they meant for us to use a different ship each time to break up the monotony.

You can raise the max in the console fyi... or thru mods. I prefer the command console mod path.

Oh 10 ships is more than enough for me, can't see why you'd want any more.

Found turrets to be quite annoying in combat... i often wanna hijack ships, and they are detrimental to that purpose.

So wasted alot of money... and instead swapped to the highest effective dps weapons in the game (which are ironically A and B class weapons)... they give about 450 dps each as a weapons group vs about 350 dps for the turrets... so they are better than the turrents anyways. Doesn't look quite as cool with the smaller guns vs the big C-class guns though. Mobility rating is 63 in this setup, so just about high enough that you can aim without it being too sluggish.

Doing either can mess up the save game and/or the achievements.
Oh 10 ships is more than enough for me, can't se why you'd want any more.

I constantly have to sell ships, so i have room for new ones i hijack.

Not if you enjoy thieving ships which then leads to always having to dump ships. It's like collecting sneakers man...

Docking at Saturn.

I want to see C-beams glitter in the dark...but i haven't find the Tannhäuser Gate yet.
This game is too bright, all ship part is perfect, nothing damaged.

Doing the UC quest line and there's a Armstice code machine. It was a long time since I laughed out loud at a game.

I found where you can get Nova style structural parts, New Homestead having the most, but is there a place that sells that style of ship so I can just rebuild one? I tried rebuilding the Eagle Star, which I have again now, but I ran into either power problems or mobility/speed problems. I can get it to 150 speed, but Mobility drops. However I did find a way to get the power sorted, and I think the weapons were better rated than the ones you show there. I was only using them in pairs though so not as much total DPS.

Maybe it's where I'm building which is New Atlantis. I'm level 55 now, so I can get up to a 38 power reactor, but the engine choices there that boost my speed to where I want it don't have good mobility thrust.

And where did you find an over 2500 rated shield? Most I've seen is 1600. Maybe you're a higher player level than me now. Did you reach 60 yet?

BTW, when I rebuilt the Star Eagle, it wound up with the reactor and grav drive exposed, vs covered with a structural piece like before. Should I be concerned about that?

Going by that comment i will have to conclude that you didn't read what i wrote about weapons.

As for shield, crew and skills - 1600 shield is the highest you can buy.

No, I read everything you said, I was only talking in terms of damage being 26 to shield and hull, not 19. And I DID acknowledge that using more than two weapons equals more total DPS.

So since I have max Shield skill already, I just need crew members with Shield skills to boost it that high?

No answer on my question about whether there's any Nova style ships for sale in game, so I have to assume there aren't.

Here's a variant on a similar deign, though the weapon stats are probably misleading, and the shield and hull stats aren't nearly as high.

OK be honest how does this compare to Spacebourne 2 or Everspace 2?

stuff like this really bugs me. I feel like if you loot the most legendary pirate in the game you should get better, unique/very rare rewards...

eh, im glad im holding off playing this game until the expansion and several more patches are out, hopefully some good mods that change the loot at some point too.
No, a guy can be good (e.g: the player), even with bad stuff (e.g: this game).

Right, then you just didn't understand it. Damage per weapon by itself is meaningless. It's a combination of damage, rate of fire, and power.

You can use this site to view weapons (and everything else), and just choose to sort by dps - then you won't actually have to understand the mechanics, just choose the weapons with the highest dps...

As for nova ships, you know that google exists, right... but the obvious answer is yes. And the site i linked also answers that.
I have linked that site in a comment to you previously, where you chose to ignore it.

As for the video... do you mean similar to mine? If so, then no, it is not similar to mine. That ship is trash... huge bulk, but barely any cargo or weapons...

And no, you obviously can't go by weapons damage when looking at a ship... it just lists the collective single shot damage for a weapons group...

It really depends what you're looking for. SB2 is very arcade, especially the space battles. Even in fighter ships, RMB auto tracks enemies, in big ships guns auto fire. SB2 has entry level Strategy game features, where you can build a fairly complex squad and faction and order them.

SB2 does have a LOT of systems, planets, and a ton of things on planets and places to land, but it's graphics aren't as good as Starfield. It started with no voice acting, but now that it has it, it sounds not nearly as good as Starfield's IMO. There's a reason SB2 is a $20 early access game, I do however like that you can fly around in zero G with suit thrusters.

I've heard Everspace 2 has WAY too many loading screens, a lot of boring mining, and can even remain mundane when progressing to other ships. However you CAN do a lot of flying in planetary atmospheres, which you cannot do in Starfield. ES2 costs $50 on Steam, so it's probably more polished than SB2, which has had a ton of bugs.

No, I understand how DPS is calculated. What is more likely is I may have forgotten the ROF. I know one of the weapon pairs I picked was 6 ROF AND had high damage though. I I didn't "choose to ignore" that site you linked either, I just looked at it for something else before.

I don't know how you're calculating 450 DPS on both those weapon groups though. I DO get over 450 on the first, but only about 307 on the 2nd.
This one looks like it would produce about 320 DPS vs 307, but cost nearly 2000 more each.

As for searching for "where to find Starfield Nova style ships", I DID. It only lead me to a site that had the full set of Nova structural parts though. It may be due to my using Bing lately, because I got fed up with Google putting me through a picture matching puzzle just for having my VPN enabled. Bing doesn't do that.

I haven't played those games, but I'm going to assume it doesn't compare at all because Starfield is not a space game. You can fly a spaceship and fight stuff in space and board ships, but those are the only things you actually do in space (and trade I guess). Space travel is done through menus; press M for Map and click on the system waypoint you want to go to (you can't go to places that aren't on the system map). Space stations look like Fallout 3/4 vaults. Spaceship interiors are like really small Fallout 3/4 vaults, unless it's a big ship. You can't fly over planets; if you want to land you bring up the map and click where you want to land and then you hold X to land and there's a cut scene with the ship landing. The space combat is ... a bit like Freelancer maybe, but worse. Travelling from planet to planet, no matter the distance, is the same as space travel: Press M for Map, press Tab twice to zoom out to the galaxy map, click on the system you want to go to to zoom in, click on planet/moon, click on where you want to land, Hold X to travel, watch cut scene of ship landing.

Yea, the loot tables are trash. To fix it... hmm, you can use a trainer which can max the equipment and loot percentage. You can also use a mod (bat command) to increase/max the frequency of elite mobs and their drops.

I honestly have to say that I'm kinda struggling with this particular game, I can't seem to get into it which is a shame as I was so looking forward to it. No Man's Sky had me entertain for so much longer before getting bored.

Second weapon group consists of weapon that uses 2 power per gun... hence why i said that weapons damage depends on damage, rate of fire, and power, as 2 power usage means you can use 6 guns in that weapons group. Meaning second group has about 438 dps.

That site i linked also lists all available ships in the game, including which vendors sell them... which is essentially all UC settlements for nova ships.

LOL, DAMN you Dragam, you always get me! I was wondering if that highlighted object below the rear left one was another gun, but somehow I dismissed it as such. Nor did I see on the chart I looked at that they use only 2 power each. So yeah, it would be 6.65 x 11 = 73.15 x 6 = 438.9! One strange little thing I noticed though is that in your pick it shows that gun as 11.54 hull/shield damage, but on the chart on the INARA site it shows it as 11 hull/shield. If your pic were right that would mean 460.446 per that group, so that makes me curious which it actually is?

So yeah, I may use those weapons, but it seems just for them it costs like 175,000!
