Samsung 980 PRO 500GB. I normally use FreeBSD as a daily driver, but the LAN of my new motherboard was incompatible the last time I tested it. I'm going to test it again next year with a newer FreeBSD version. That's why I tested OpenBSD, and it works well with all my new hardware, but app startup times were so slow that it bothered me. I tested OpenBSD today with the 980 PRO and the app boot times are OK thanks to this NVMe giving me a nicer desktop experience with OpenBSD.

What ethernet chip is it? Sounds strange to have one that is supported by OpenBSD but not FreeBSD.

I reported the issue here: https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/intel-alder-and-raptor-lake-support.88779/page-3

OpenBSD has great hardware support for new AMD/Intel CPU/GPU's and new motherboards. They have better (modern) hardware support than FreeBSD in multiple domains.

OpenBSD works fine on my new hardware, but the OpenBSD performance on new hardware is low. (worse than on old hardware)

is that an air fryer? how nice is it and does it need any oil at all? i am looking into cutting out even more oil from my diet to lower my cholesterol levels
Yep, no oil needed. It only leave a bit of oil from the food in the bucket.
I find the dual bucket really handy but this one looks good too.

@P4-630 I got this one, the Philips Airfryer XXL Connected HD9285/93
Dual bucket style, I see. Nice but a bit pricey in NL, mine was only €88

I got this for my regular oven, which turns into a much larger air fryer when used with the pizza mode or true fan cooking mode.
Takes up a lot less space and costs a lot less.

FreeBSD are very slow to support new Ethernet chips. Took them ages to add support for Aquantia/Marvell as well.

Nice, if you got a regular oven...:) Which I don't have...

My airfryer will be done faster though... :)
How so? You still need to warm it up no? It's not instantly heated up. My oven takes less than 10 minutes to heat up.

Ofcourse it heats up, mine just doesn't require pre-heating.. :)

It just heats up very quickly.

BTW also my new Philips Whirlpool microwave oven does a frozen pizza in 7 minutes without preheating... :)

Yeah, preheat was what I meant. Ok, I guess that saves a little bit of time, unless you do it while you prep the food.

These things are great when in a rush or want to just save some time, Also pretty good on the electric to.

My fam just got this.

It's been great so far and cooked many things in it since getting it about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

@TheLostSwede The way these modern air fryers work is realy good and most of them do not need any sort of pre heating.
Everything is contained in such a small space it just heats up almost instant and then you have the fan to help the flow of heat to.
A fresh chicken that would take me 1 hour 30 mins to cook in my gas oven takes like 50 mins in the air fryer :D

Portable electric tyre inflator for my cycle, is pretty good and miles better than even a track pump.

I really like my air fryer, but found out recently it exposes me to PFAS forever chemical. In the future I will buy only Cuisnart brand as their stuff is all staineless steel.

Whats the wattage on that? just wondering if they are power hogs.

If what i am seeing is right it says 2470W and when it comes to how much something can cost i can only base it what our smart meter says.

So i basically cooked a hole sunday roast for 4 people that took an hour and according to the smart meter we used about 40p/pence in electric.
You have to remember due to the design of some of these things the heating element is not on all the time and only comes back on to keep the temps at say 180c.

Right, well, I don't have the counter or cabinet space for something like that, so I found an alternative solution.
Obviously I don't know how well it compares, as I've never used or eaten anything that I know of, that has been cooked in a "proper" air fryer.

See above.
I have a brand new oven (since we recently moved into a new flat) and it heats up in about 10 minutes, which is still longer I guess, but still fast compared to older ovens.
I don't really cook whole chicken, but the air fryer tray for the oven has been good for veggies.

10 mins is pretty good, ours takes aaaages, maybe 30+ mins. When it's dead gonna have to invest in a better one. We have a gas hob and slot in lekky oven.

This weekend I took some time to start working on my two new pump/reservoir combo's by building a mounting frame for them.

20240520_231734.jpg

Of course once you start assembling and want to link the two pumps, you'll find out you dont have the right fittings in your stash . And a bended tube with straight fittings is not looking nice as you can see in the picture.
So I ordered some extra 90 degree ones, including some fittings and a 3/5 mm hose to make an air bleed line from the bottom reservoir to the top resevoir. Two resevoirs with pumps in series is normally a no-go due to the accumulator effect of the air in the second one, but I'll try to overcome this with an air bleed line so the bottom reservoir is filled with liquid only.

Also had some Evel Knievel moments too when replacing my PCIe 3.0 riser cable for a PCIe 4.0 riser cable with the liquid loop still filled :fear: , but it all worked out and no leaks.
Those Bykski anti-off hard tube fittings are really good and forgiving.
The fans on the four 120 x 45 rads were easier to change. went from the Arctic P12 to the Arctic P12 A-RGB (which I had already laying around since X-mas :ohwell:)

I'm currently printing up a case and Amazon should get me a 16GB card and a 40mm cooling fan tomorrow.*

I have a Ninja 6 in 1 air fryer grill, it requires preheating for the "grill" preset because it heats the grill to 500 degrees and puts sear marks on steaks :)

Are headphones tech?

I finally broke down and bought a HFM Edition XS, questionable headband and all (although the Ananda Stealth is only a few dollars more on their discount store if that's your thing).

Those used to be ~$500 and ($1000, then $700 iirc) up headphones (considered a value at their original prices), so the current deals are pretty good if that's something you're into IMHO.

At $279+FS and after doing that thing (I think we all do) of going back and staring at them several times and thinking about it, I couldn't say no. I've spent more on crap I knew I would appreciate much less.

I'm now waffling between a BTR15 and Qudelix-5k. Probably going to end up with the 5k, just because it appears to me more my type of unique gadget (rather than janky, populist, glass-covered POS).

I really like AutoEQ: not just the use of it (which I already use for all my cans on PC), but the thought of it (a user-contributed repository of downloadable profiles for pretty much every headphone) is neat AF.

I just hope it has enough power (as the dongle on my OG DEVA is rated 2/3 of it's power and poops out around ~70%), and I don't end up having to ALSO buy the aforementioned other thing (w/ more power).

Thing is, now I probably have to use a 3.5mm->4.4mm->2.5mm adapter for this setup that I really just wanted to be a short wire from the cups to the amp; which might get super ugly.

Whatever: it was never about making a fashion statement, more of a "This is who I am: chaining together all kinds of well-made niche stuff to hopefully make something great(er)" thing...I just hope it works. :)

It truly does feel like any-day-now Qudelix will release a 4.4mm model w/ more power, or HFM will make a better-than-deva-cheaper-than-ananda-bt set, and at that point I'll throw my fists up angrily into the sky...

...But...you know...until then...at least it's something to do.
