RX 9000 series GPU Owners Club

If you enjoy random crashes when you play your games, -85mV is perfectly fine!

I wish people could stop spreading greedy non stable settings. That's sad.
AMD's first card, huh?
In one game/software it will run at -60mV, in another it will be rock stable at -110mV, that's how Radeon have been working since... years.

It's mostly overkill at 4k, but very useful at 1080p
Even at 4K I find FSR4 in "DLAA" mode to be very impressive. I often notice native AA to over sharpen things at 4K, but FSR4 fix this and provide a nice slider that allow me to set the sharpness to my taste. I find that Baldur's Gate 3 look better with FSR4 1.1x versus native AA. Grass don't look like knives and hair's are looking much better!

I think that there is a language barrier, and sometimes what looks like rude remark is just wrongly set words, and if I see something like that I think that it is just language barrier, and move on with topic :)
or I'm delusional xD
Someone pin this please. I find a lot of tit for tat in this thread, too much in fact. Maybe I'm too old school for this new world

Have you tried Radeon Image Sharpening in the driver? I don't know if it's different from FSR sharpening but it works on the entire desktop as well as games. It's definitely a lot better than my monitor's sharpening setting.

I did and unexpectedly disliked it a lot. It feel very different than what FSR4 sharpness slider do.

That entirely depends on your monitor and its low framerate compensation (LFC) algorithm.

For example, mine has a Freesync range of 48-144 Hz. When I have 72-144 FPS, my frame rate matches my monitor's refresh rate, and the image is buttery smooth. When I've got under 72 FPS, LFC kicks in, and my monitor doubles or triples its refresh rate relative to my frame rate (so for example, it works at 100 Hz with 50 FPS, or 90 Hz with 30 FPS). If the frame rate is rock stable, there's no problem as long as I'm within 48-144 FPS/Hz. But when there's minor fluctuations in the 50-55 FPS range, even if you can't see it, it can result in the monitor rapidly turning LFC on and off, which leads to some backlight flicker. It's not a big deal, but quite observable on a light image.

But like I said, it depends on your monitor alone.
Interesting. What monitor do you have out of interest?

Dell S3422DWG (in my signature). What I described is not a unique thing, though.

True. Supposedly from reviews the monitor I recently purchased has noticeable flicker. I just wondered if there was a better way on the horizon for OLEDs

It could explain why during using bazzite I've had some strange flickering, (But I've scrapped bazzite for cachy os, and now screen is good :) )

I don't know. Mine is VA. I'm on a strict no-OLED policy (I don't want to deal with burn-in). :ohwell:

It's not Bazzite. I have some flicker in the above situation on any OS.

I would have probably gone with a mini-led monitor had those TCL ones been available. I ended up getting it relatively cheap and in 3 years (burn-in cover) hopefully things will have improved and we'll have a delightful circular economy so I can trade the old one in.

Being cheap was my main reason for this one, too. Besides that, I like buying a monitor for life. I used my last one for 7 years, and the one before that for about the same - and I wouldn't have swapped them if I didn't move away, which would have meant about 13-15 years in total. Even now, I only swapped because I was curious about the ultrawide feel. I'm definitely keeping this for 20 years at least, as I can't see any feature dragging me away from it.

Yea, I was very much the same. I'd probably still be using my old 16:10 monitor if I had a desktop at the time, but the draw of those inky blacks was too much this time round. I think ultra wide is probably the next horizon as lots of people speak favourably about the experience.

I've notived very faint flicker too while VRR is on. For example, if I browse a web page with animations on it, there is some light "glitch". I think it's because Windows is very bad to determine what should and shouldn't be variable. I have an fps counter on my TV and I can see the fps dips. It goes from anywhere between 50 and 144 rapidly and constantly.

To fix this, I manually add the application in Adrenalin like if it's a game and I turn off FreeSync. I do it for my browser and also for Adrenalin itself because I can see flicker in it when I scroll.

Oh yes, the one I had before I moved was a 16:10. I loved it so much! I'm 100% sure I'd still be using that after 15 years if I hadn't moved.

Ultrawide is a mixed bag, imo. Weird when browsing or watching videos, not bad when working, and absolutely amazing in games. Extra FOV = extra immersion. :)

Yea. The whole desktop media experience could certainly use some fine tuning, or taking notes from tv's or streaming boxes. Having to use a hotkey to turn HDR on and off depending on the applicaton doesn't sound like an intuitive experience.

Yea, it seems like a good few people only use their computers for gaming whereas I tend to use it for almost everything. Certainly seems like this monitor is lacklustre when it comes to supporting things like HDR10+ / HLG etc compared to our TV downstairs.

Yea

Are you browsing in full screen mode? Videos do that for me too, but running them in a window solves the problem.

Yep, that's what one has to do on Windows, problem sorted. :)

I'm still looking for a solution on Linux, besides the above.

I always leave HDR on, it's VRR that is more anoying in my case. Fortunately, VRR can be set on and off per apps.

Yes, I've noticed that too! I don't browse in full screen mode using F11, but I auto hide my task bar since I have an OLED display and I like to have my apps maximized which does the same thing as being in full screen. If I don't hide the task bar, it doesn't count as fullscreen.

Supposedly colours looked better without HDR on when it comes to browsing?! Unless you're watching HDR videos presumably, but then I imagine Apps would be suggested and you open yourself up to the world of "Enshitification", but it's something I'll have to experiment with myself. Can't say I'm a fan of forcing HDR where it doesn't belong using Auto-HDR either. I'm not sure what the desktop equivalent of QMS (quick media switching) is, or whether it's planned / feasible out of the box?

Interestingly, HDR looks miles better on Linux than it does on Windows with my monitor. Even the monitor's OSD says "HDR+" in Linux, but "FS2" in Windows, whatever the heck that means. I don't know why.

I never use Auto HDR. I've tried it in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and it was not to my liking. Ended up using a mod for HDR instead.

I've set the SDR to my liking and I'm happy with it. But I use this PC only for gaming and some light browsing. I'd probably turn HDR off if I were using the PC for anything else.

Yea, I don't know why Windows seems like such a wretched experience for HDR? Supposedly the HDR calibration tool is recommended, but not sure how much of a difference that makes regarding the base experience?!

We've discussed it before, I think regarding Portal RTX, but for me it's whether these mods interfere with artistic intent when it comes to visuals. My beef with something like those Nvidia HDR Tools and placing high res textures where they don't belong.

It's very mendatory in my opinion. Many games use values of the profile created by the calibration tool. You set it and many game are going to be right straight ootb.

Maybe it's stupid question, but is hdr neutral or bad for monitor? Cause I can use it, but I'm afraid of loosing monitor, guarantee is long gone.
With 9070 XT I can do a lot more with my pc, but sometimes I've got this sense of mistrust with newer tech, that I don't know well.
