One of the forums that I have been visiting since 2004 hands one out every 10 years, Got my 20 year badge :D

lol I had no idea what 10/15/etc even meant! Didn't feel the need to look into it either. At times, when the interest did arise to see when a user joined, the "joined (date)" info under the username was sufficient.

I'm in the minority... voted "remove..." or don't mind aligning with the majority if theres a setting to disable.

To be fair, its not half as maddening as those large images or glowing fonts in the user signature space. If you could chuck us a setting to turn that off, we'll build a golden statue of the W1ZZARD and take turns to polish it clean and clutter-free :D

Why not leave it as it is. Why fix something that isn't broken.

As we get older we all want the kids to stay off our grass.

I'm more curious about why stars are still a thing, than the long service badge

Badges are fun, but leave them on user pages.

Just cause someone has been a registered user here for 10+ years doesn't mean they haven't just been a mess of hot takes and bad advice the whole time.

I think a "most helpful" or positive react badge would be way more useful to show someone contributes useful info than simply existing on the site for a certain number of years.

@W1zzard
The option "The Badges are fine as-is" was not presented as a vote option.

That's my vote. I don't see a problem. However, for those that find it an irritation, perhaps a toggle button like the one which shows or does not show profile signatures. That is one I happily disable. I have no interest in seeing some of the silly drivel certain people put in their profile signatures..

It's better this way. Otherwise people could be singled out & harassed and there's been enough of that kind of thing happening as of late. Private votes are just fine.

I would disagree with raising the year count because that's effectively limiting it to people who joined before X date instead of it being what it is actually called; people who been here for X years.

Simply add new time milestones as time passes. Don't take away old ones.

What I do think is that there should also be a minimum post count requirement. Maybe something averaged to 100 posts for year? So, to get a 5 year one (if it exists), you'd need 500 posts, and for 10 years, you'd need 1,000 posts, and so on.

I say this as someone with the 10 year one who didn't become active until recently. I originally joined because one of your members found me on the Sims 3 forums, haha, so I posted for some application they had and never intended to stay. Came back when I had a problem, "oh, I have an account already" and sort of stayed., mostly for game discussion.

I don't think people should be limited from these because they didn't join/weren't active in the 2000s. At the same time, 100 posts per year requirement along with the years themselves sounds fair. That way people who never truly stay active don't get it, but have a chance to get it if they return. That feels like the fairest compromise to me.

Edit: As for where they are placed, I don't care. Where they are, under profile, hidden in user profile, it's all the same to me.

As someone who doesn't generally care about such things, the only suggestions I'd have are:

Add higher tiers, but don't remove/change existing.
Possibly consider adding an activity requirement to maintain it (a post or two every month for example can't hurt).
Have a toggle to show/hide for those who may just want to have a clean UI.

Bronze colored badge at 5 years, silver for 10 years, and gold for 20+

Why? So people can come up with yet another reason to draw %conclusion% about something or %people%?

I didnt vote, I think it should be left as is. It hasnt bothered anyone except 1 dude that posted off topic in a completely different comments and feedback thread lol. Mountain out of a mole hill.

I will not vote, too. Closest I can come is suggesting putting on the fly-out when clicking on a username.

Something else I have thought of in the past few years........
Some think the use of enterprise volume license keys for personal use is shady. I suggest a method of rewarding TPUers with fifteen years an invitation to become part of the machine, with legit access to Eprise OS. Personally, I have bought a few, and really enjoy the privilige. If there was a "more acceptable method," more might think better about it.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not suggesting a handout from TPU.

Edited for clarity

The only idea I have, would be a small trophy with just the number of years in the center. 1, 10, 20, it wouldn't matter, everyone could have something that would show Actual years of service and only would be shown if a user was active in the last 12 months. 1 year guy happy, 20 year guy happy, 3 year guy happy. But maybe at 10 and 20 year marks a large/r trophy, perhaps colors also. Gold silver, bronze, ect. Again, just an idea.

Wow, I'm like 2 months away from 5 years and then have the rug pulled. Wooooow.

j/k, yeah dropping 5 years seems fine or just keep it the same. Which is less effort and therefore best.

You mean this one?

Yes, that's the one we were talking about. Should be very somewhat easy for W1z to do.
Bob is showing whersmycar that their gripe is easily remedied, not an example of how to turn off badges.

Gold silver, bronze, ect.
And before introducing Platinum and Palladium levels, please check the prices at metal exchanges. Don't make the same mistake as Cybenetics, 80 Plus and Intel have made.

Fine as is <3

Not sure what prompted the question but, if it's being asked I'd say just move them to the User Info page.

New guys should wear pink.. just a thought..

:peace:
