The option "What is a service badge?" is not an option. (really, not kidding this time)

Can mine just say "been serviced"?

Never noticed them until they were pointed out in this thread...

Is it possible they weren't visible on the mobile version? I hadn't noticed before and am mostly mobile.

Edit: Oh, wow. I have a long service badge too.

choice/toggle would be cool if poss.
Or move into/onto avatar?
Voted. And changed my mind twice lol .
Almost 18 years for me

One of the forums that I have been visiting since 2004 hands one out every 10 years, Got my 20 year badge :D

I agree 10 years+

How they do it @ Overclockers.com.

I honestly don't care, but I voted 10.

Keep at 5, but make it a Icon that appears next to avatar instead without text, length is shows as a popup if mouse hovers over it.
10 seems excessive to me. 15 and 20 is insanity. Stick it next to the online icon.
Guessing someone moaned is too much long service in the comments?

Ahh I see it now. I think I noticed this a a couple of weeks ago then forgot about it today.

I don't see it on mobile but for some reason I couldn't login on mobile either. Dark mode on mobile is excellent!

It's a lot easier to see in dark mode!

i feel old. it's like im from the 1900's.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it as is, but I did vote 5 years. As someone who's been here quite a while myself, I feel like increasing the requirements for a long service badge now equates to nothing more than moving the goal posts so only the oldest of the old farts can continue to wear them, prohibiting those who would be getting them from doing so.

I voted 5 but I think post count is a better indicator. Forums are not like what they used to be unfortunately. They are much less active nowadays. I'm a long time member of other forums that almost died. I switched to here because it is currently one of the most active tech forums today. I really miss the old days.

I'm old, he's old, she's old, we's old, wouldn't you like to be old too?

TPU is the gathering of old farts that miss the old days. Welcome to the forums sram

Oh yeah, can't deny I'm old.

5 years is a solid, if someone stuck by a place for 5 years... they've as invested an audience as it can get. Raising it to 10+ is gonna reduce it to much smaller fraction of people, and at the 20 threshold you're pretty much making it exclusive to people who were here since 2004-2005, most of which are not around anymore. Many may not even be amongst us any longer.

IMO - if the intention is to minimize forum clutter, allow the option to disable user flair on the forum settings, or move it to the sidebar like here, there is a good amount of unused space.

I do think it's a good idea to reward those who have been around since the beginning with a special badge, though.

There should be a "high quality poster" or something

I agree, good incentive for users whose reaction score exceeds post count by a good amount, or who have verified solutions. Unfortunately very few people who ask questions mark their threads as solved :(

We currently have 5, 10, 15 and 20 years.

Make it so that it's just 15 and 20 years to get a badge?

Is it not possible to just provide us a toggle in settings, where we can have badges show or not show up? Similar to signatures, you let us turn off signatures site wide, can we do the same with badges? My issue isn't with the badge numbers themselves, its just they are an eye sore in dark mode on an OLED screen. Or if not a toggle switch to turn them off and on in preferences where we turn off signatures, maybe an option to gray them out in color? My issue isn't with badges so much as it is just dark mode on an OLED screen really highlights them and shoves them in your face, in what is otherwise a very lovely dark mode experience. Now I never noticed this in light mode, because it didn't stand out as much.

So, if the toggle or graying out is not possible, I probably am just going to go back to light mode, it messes with my OCD lol

As many others, I don't see a problem. Maybe color stars blank for noobs, bronze for 5+, silver for 10+, and gold for 20+ years of service. But that's really it, not the most important matter.
