What's your latest tech purchase?

Stop doing that. I did. I always wait a for a few months or a year, unless there's a needs for testing, which is rare these days.

What I find ironically odd about this photo is the ultrawide display and the dinky 60% keyboard. I know everyone has their preferences, but come on..
so I should use a full size keyboard even though I do not use 40% of it? :D
here is my dinky keyboard next to my previous monitor of 57"

dinky engaged

doing a little experiment because i am so incredibly sick of PCs at the moment... using the absolute latest hardware directly on launchday for the last 10 years breaks you mentally
I did that a awhile ago too. Totally walked away from computers and got into RC lol.. just as expensive haha.. but at least you are outside.. shredding hundred dollar bills :)

I did get pretty good at it. And people would use my setups and ideas.. so that was neat.

Roccat Vulcan TKL Pro optical RGB. The razer keyboard i had pissed me off so got this in trade from CEX instead

Wanted to replace the DC Koala 3 that I have in service (again). It is a 92x35mm 4000RPM knuckle shredder that I have on a very short leash using the 5v thingy from my old D14. I also wanted to see if I could fit an 80mm fan beside it.. my Mitutoyo says it will be super tight.. I could work with that.

The spacing between the keycaps looks massive.
Also mmm tangy tots

I guess it's the flat keycaps. Gonna look for another set as the lighting is a bit too much with no sides on the keycaps. They are still ok to type on though.

i had all playstations from my childhood on. (1999 was the year i got my PS1)
it's familiar and i really don't think that a PC with windows 11 is a objectively better experience.
proper HDR support, games run really well and look great, no shader compiling no random problems. and the mac is pretty nice too combined with an iPhone.

3 years ago i would have said that a windows PC is the best experience possible but overall i really enjoy the contrast to the"walled garden" that just works. i scout through ebay and buy used games for way cheaper than any steam sale and the power consumption of my room has reduced by over 80% which saves me around 400 bucks in two years.

After 17 years of being a VA peasant I've finally switched to OLED.
I wanted LG 45GX950A-B but it's not available in my region, store says maybe in September so I've settled for this Odyssey OLED G9 G93SD in the meantime.
Looking great so far. I will see how it goes with the burn in :D

With that background it will burn in 2 weeks XD

Upgraded from 5600MT/s 64GB to 96GB RAM. 6400MT/s was never going to work but I could at least down clock them to 6000MT/s

Asrock UEFI gave me some issues but I worked out I had to reset cmos, boot at default 5200MT/s, disable memory context restore, change voltages to AUTO, save, reboot, apply the 6400MT/s profile, down clock, reset some voltages back to AUTO, reset some timings back to AUTO, save, reboot, finally get a baseline/default 6000MT/s config from the UEFI and extract some RAM info from HWiNFO64. Plugged the data into my spreadsheet and brought the timings back to spec, updated UEFI with new timings, save, reboot, enable memory context restore, save, finally reboot and memtest86. Wasn't sure what to do with tREFI and tRRDS so I just left tREFI on AUTO and used the UEFI value for tRRDS. I just have to check my DRAM voltage and set it back down to 1.1v.

In the spreadsheet below the green boxes were 6400MT/s imported profile values. The blue boxes are the recalculated timings based on the module specs.

Traded my Dell XPS 15 7590 (worth around $325-350) for a 2017 13" non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro (about $200) and a ThinkPad X13 Gen 2 (about $250) on FB marketplace since I didn't need the discrete GPU in the XPS. Both are in decent shape; I just had to add some rubber feet to the ThinkPad because two of them were missing. I've been using the ThinkPad the most because it has USB-A ports that I need for my mice. The wallpapers are from my recent trip to FL (I just used my S22).

My new mobo/CPU Erying board came in. Intel 13980HX. After savings and $44.14 CAD back from Rakuten, I paid a total of $392.16 CAD

my thinkpad is the e14 one, from 2021/2. best laptop keyboard i have used.

Just got a steelseries apex pro with the oled screen for £54

new cooler to replace the ageing D15, and a contract frame.

Just got this Anker GAN 100W charger that is 1/3 the size of the Asus 90W USB-C power brick (came with 2025 Vivobook S14)

The GAN charger is tiny, gaming laptop makers should seriously adopt GAN chargers

The point of a 60% keyboard (which I use alongside a horizontal 34" and a vertical 32" to the right of it) is to allow you the ergonomics to have your hands/shoulders in more comfortable positions. With a wider keyboard you either have to push your left arm further to the left, or your right arm further to the right in order to have good mouse movement. Everything can still be done, and if you want numpad you can just use layer sticky key, or whatever. But I honestly don't find myself needing a numpad very often. Unless you need dedicated functions, for stock trading like a Bloomberg keyboard, or if you're an accountant, or for some reason use the function row so regularly that pressing CTRL with your little finger when you press the top row is just too much extra time and effort, I do think the whole "100% keyboards are more practical" concept is a bit overblown.

Ignore the mess and the censored screens, but you get the idea, I could even move the mousepad further to the left and still have unrestricted movement with good ergonomics for my seating position and shoulder width:

For arrow keys or media keys in the rare occasion I need them I use FN, which is the same difficulty as CTRL + C for example. I have different layers, so my lighting changes when in a different layer so I can quickly see if I forget where a key is. It's also an analogue hall effect keyboard, so I have a similar gradual control over each key as you do with a joystick or controller for instance, reducing clutter on desk. The mat is large and glass so easy to clean and with low friction.

A 65% keyboard which has an additional row to the right has virtually everything 95%+ of users use daily, so again, it's not as serious as people may think.

To each their own. I'd rather have dedicated keys than use the "FN". For me, it's full size, full function or GTFO.
If you're not using the FN is it really full function?

I just like dedicated arrow keys, tried a 60%, but in some games having to hold a FN key to use the arrows to do something in game just does not work.

doing a little experiment because i am so incredibly sick of PCs at the moment... using the absolute latest hardware directly on launchday for the last 10 years breaks you mentally. literally everything is broken, no matter if it was corrupting windows and files with early ryzens massive memory instability, Zen 3 idle crashes for almost a year, the awful RDNA1 and 2 launches, replacing your exploded 7800X3D with a 14900k that degrades to a crisp while reading your emails about the RMA of your 4090 that catched on fire while playing "overwhelmingly negative" rated game ports like Monster Hunter Wilds.
And Windows 11 being the most disgusting ad infest dumpster fire of all time.

never thought that i, the guy with enough Hardware to build 50 PCs, having a selection of different 4090s, multiple X3Ds all the way up to the 9950X3D, every single GPU and CPU Architecture from the last two decades genuinely hates PCs now.
i have not used my 9950X3D/9070XT PC for 56 days now and i am surprised how calm everything has become. everything "just works" and nothing stands in my way.

got myself a 42" LG C4, the PS5 Pro (threw one of my 4TB 990 Pros in it) and the new M4 Mac Mini and i already played more video games in 4 weeks than i did on PC in the entire year.
