There was one big thing that annoyed me about the last LANboy case: The hard drive slots were not secure enough to hold my hard drives in. The holsters fit the slots very loose. I even had one drive slip out of the slot, and the desktop was never moved. Good thing the machine wasn't running.

The layout looks good to me, but there seems to be "too much" of everything else. The two fans along the PCI card slot area is pointless. Lian-Li had a better idea by making an adapter with a 120mm fan that blew air around the PCI and video card slots out of the vents at the same location.

I like the hot swappable 3.5" bay in the front. That's all I like about it really.

I've had one of the listed drives for almost a year. I've had no issues with it. Thought about installing the new firmware until I heard more info about it. Guess I'll leave it to be.

Still waiting on H.264 support for MKV files.

If you have a Sams Club membership, they sell a 50pk of the Verbatim DL for $60. They are rated at 2.4x, but you can burn them up to 6x. Only thing you need to watch for is the country of production. They have Malaysia and India mixed together. Unfortunately, TY doesn't make DL media. Otherwise...

Newegg only had one model available. It's the SmartStor NS4300N. Assumptions are correct. Four drives are plenty, and 2TB of space will be suffice. Ease of use is great since I'm the type to just "set it and forget it." Reliability and support are important to me as well. I keep reading on...

What about Promise? It's within the same price range as the Synology one I posted first. Also, what other features should be of concern? I figure transfer speeds which are also limited to the network speed anyway. I don't know if RAID rebuild time is really important to me.

I'm more concerned with getting feedback to what brands/models I should consider or avoid. The thread doesn't really tell me about Thecus or their reputation/reliability other than one user has one.
