Dyson's High Fidelity, Active Noise Cancelling Headphones with Air Purification Set for Sale at US$949 From January

This product reminds me of a Silicon Valley startup that was advertising "smart" drinking cups. The premise was that dehydration is a global problem and that selling an overpriced, proprietary product that runs on batteries and beeps at you to drink more water would solve this global issue...

Do You Use Cheats In Games

My biggest gripe with GTA5 single player is that they haven't given the game any of the online updates since 2015. Even if you don't play GTA Online, then you still have to sit there regardless waiting for updates and volunteer your storage space for content that you never even get to enjoy. So...

    What's your latest tech purchase?

I don't have many games but I can compare it against some results I got on my GTX 1060 6GB. The Quadro trades blows with it which shows just how much more powerful Pascal is (possibly with the added help of better driver support). Generally running at 1080p very high settings. Yeah up to...

    What's your latest tech purchase?

GTX Titan X with green gills cost me about the same as a Ryzen 5600. You can tell from the build quality that these cards used to be high-end stuff. Really cool! (Okay it technically has slower clock speeds than the Titan X.....but still).

    What's your latest tech purchase?

TI-89 Titanium calculator, great condition but sold for parts for basically the cost of postage. Arrived totally dead although as I suspected the PCB battery contact pads had corroded and weren't making contact anymore. It's a stupid design and the main cause of failure for these calculators...

    What's your latest tech purchase?

I got a batch of black PCBs manufactured through JLCPCB and they turned out great. Not my design but it's the first time I've custom-ordered from a PCB manufacturer. The 100x100mm boards in a batch of 10 end up only costing me $2 per board including shipping so it's super inexpensive. The...

Best value for money out of these four AUD? Upgrade from a 2060

Honestly your 2060 already isn't far behind in performance to those cards and it wouldn't be a big upgrade. And the 7700K might start holding you back at that point anyway, so it's very likely you'll fall into a slippery downward slope of partial upgrades to prevent bottlenecks. Assuming the...

    What's your latest tech purchase?

Graduated from onboard Supreme FX audio and upgraded to an Ifi Zen V2 external USB dac/amp for around US$170. Never used an external dac before and didn't know which one to buy but turns out this one is really great as a headphone user (AKG K240 Studio to be specific). Plug and play, no software...

POLL - How much RAM do you have?

I used to think that 8GB was enough for an office machine, until I started seeing use cases where it's easy to blow past that by just having a bunch of internet tabs open. Especially users who don't know anything about computers and RAM usage are more likely to not care about having a million...

Single rank & dual rank kits in quad channel

Until now I've been running a 2x16GB kit of memory in dual channel, but now I've upgraded with another 2x16GB kit of the exact same model. Only difference is that the new kit is single rank and my original kit is dual rank. I'm not OCD so minor differences aren't a bother. Both of them in the...

[EOL] Arctic MX-5 is here!!Tests incoming! Completed. Now its MX-6 testing time!

That's cool, I have a few degrees in engineering myself. Mechanical and agricultural mainly, but I never mention them because they tend to have little to do with discussions about computing. I studied thermodynamics and did my dissertation on heat storage in latent heat materials. Pretty well...

[EOL] Arctic MX-5 is here!!Tests incoming! Completed. Now its MX-6 testing time!

Then why does a bucket of motor oil sit in a shed and it's still there after 30 years, hmm? It's in a liquid state, so where's the evaporation? I'm not mad, it's just tired of talking to people who have an imaginary degree in chemical engineering and make baseless claims with no connection to...

Evaporation is a trait specific to water (does oil evaporate??) and it's own specific chemical stability. Even ice evaporates (sublimation). That has nothing to do with thermal paste. Anyway, I'm done with this conversation and trying to keep up with your endless meanderings. Cheers.

[EOL] Arctic MX-5 is here!!Tests incoming! Completed. Now its MX-6 testing time!

I don't know where you get all these theories from but you must have a head like Megamind from overthinking everything. I've seen Core i3 processors with the original heatsink thermal throttling at 90C, and after replacing the thermal paste barely touching 50C. Dried out paste definitely isn't...

[EOL] Arctic MX-5 is here!!Tests incoming! Completed. Now its MX-6 testing time!

Pump-out might be relevant for thinner pastes but normally thermal paste needs to be replaced because the paste itself has expired. For a stock Intel heatsink I've found that the paste goes bad after about five years. Typically that's because the paste has dried out and isn't making good...
