    AMD rig upgrades?

Haha thanks for the advice everyone. I don't feel the need for a cpu upgrade anymore, as I've never maxed it out as is. I do however think a second gpu would be a nice boost of frame rates. I like running things with maximum eye candy.

If I got the 280x, should that be card 1 or 2?

    AMD rig upgrades?

Hey guys, haven't been around for a long time. I built a new system a couple years ago using the ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ board (not formula Z), and FX 8150 current;y at 4.4Ghz, 16gb of GSkill DDR3 @1600, Diamond HD7970. My question to you all is, would it be worthwhile to upgrade to the FX...

I challenge you! to help me fix this issue lol

I think everyone would agree a better CPU cooler is in order either way.. Just to clearify, you did not take the cooler off of the graphics card? And yes, flashing the graphics card with a new bios does sometimes fix issues, as well as doing so with your motherboard. They actually solve a lot of...

    AMD Radeon 8000 Series Dates?

Personally I am currently running a simgle 7970, with the intent on buying another within the next month or two. I have also run dual cards before, as well as single top of the line cards. I miss my 8800GTX.. or SLI 7800GT copper cooler edition BFG's. I do agree 100%, but I think the decision...

I'm still confused myself, because he says its a different component or fan every time.. :\ The best thing to do is make fans and heatsinks are where they should be, and there is sufficient thermal interface material where it's needed.

He previously stated his temperature log was showing temps in excess of 100c... never though of that!

The problem is this: Your computer is severely overheating, close to the point of permanent hardware damage or failure if you keep trying to run it in its current state. You NEED a better CPU cooler, and some good thermal paste. Here are some links to things you need. Low cost, but effective...

    PC won’t boot?, interesting …

is your heatsink seated properly with new thermal paste and the old stuff cleaned off? cpu fan plugged in? power connections correctly and fully inserted? make sure your clear cmos jumper is not still on the reset pina.

    AMD Radeon 8000 Series Dates?

I don't think there would be much of a performance difference between the 7970 and the 8970, seeing how its just a revision. Crossfired 7970's would almost certainly beat out any single card setup unless it were a dual gpu card. Just my opinion though. When it comes down to it, it's your money...

I swear by Corsair and Thermaltake Tough Power power supplies. Personally I would go with a $100 or so Corsair.. You definitely need to replace that hunk of pot metal.. grab yourself a Xigmatek cpu cooler or something while your at it too, and more thermal paste. Use 91% alcohol and qtips to...

did you clean and replace the paste on the motherboard and reinstall the heatsink properly to the NB/SB, vrms on the motherboard?

that's usually not a good idea either. what kind of thermal paste or pads are you using? each part usually requires a specific kind, as some are electrically conductive, and others are not. arctic silver 5 is great for processors, while the white pads or arctic ceramique should be used for...

ASUS P8Z77 V Pro sees only half the RAM

I'm gonna say that you using mixed ram is definitely not helping. look into getting a single matched 16gb kit of memory. they run around $80 at newegg on sale.. memory timings and speeds can do crazy things.
